jedion357 June 3, 2014 - 8:17am | Nice, only needs a legend. Looks like the elevator crowds the access to the airlock for the small craft. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tollon June 3, 2014 - 8:32am | Actually it is an extendable airlock collar that mates with the hatch on top of the small craft. The light yellow and tan bars on either wing are the moorring clamps. I'm working on the description and how the cargo pods should look in my mind. I had hopes of submitting it to the Frontier Explorer but I'm way over the deadline because of computer issues. |
jedion357 June 3, 2014 - 10:47am | Next issue is KHs themed go ahead and submit I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tollon June 3, 2014 - 12:54pm | I've sumitted the draft of the description to Frontier Explorer. It's very generalized and not overwelm if you ask me. Let's see what they can do with it... |
TerlObar June 3, 2014 - 7:56pm | Yeah, don't worry about the deadline. We (jedion357, myself, iggy, Karxan, and AZ_Gamer are the editors) are just starting to get the next issue organized. We'll take a look at your submission early and get you some feedback so we can get it into this issue. And welcome to the site! Ad Astra Per Ardua! iggy June 3, 2014 - 8:55pm | Is there anything to your deck plans to give scale? I get the impression that this is a large craft. Are these all the decks or just a few as a sample? -iggy |
Tollon June 4, 2014 - 12:43am | It done on a 1.5 meter scale. The drawing here is the entire ship in raw form but the finished version is in the PDF I submitted. |
KRingway June 12, 2014 - 2:22am | It seems like there's quite a tight squeeze in areas around the top and bottom of the lift shaft, on quite a few of the decks. |
jedion357 June 12, 2014 - 3:04am | It seems like there's quite a tight squeeze in areas around the top and bottom of the lift shaft, on quite a few of the decks. True but I would simply rule that as half movement for passing through a constricted area if combat broke out and a PC or NPC was trying to move tactically through one of those areas. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
KRingway June 15, 2014 - 8:12am | It's a bit of a design flaw in terms of other emergency situations. Even on a normal day, the crew would have to wait for one another to pass through those areas. Dralasites might be okay, but for Vrusks and anyone else it could be rather tricky - even more so in vacc suits |
Tollon June 15, 2014 - 12:37pm | I will admit it would be akward, now that I look at it. The salesman in inside of me would probably say. "It's an anti-hijack measure. You wouldn't want those evil pirates easy access to every deck, now would ya? Oh and those other concerns you have over emergencies, the ship is so well built you'll never see one in your lifetime..." |
Ascent June 15, 2014 - 12:50pm | Then a fire happens while inside the space dock, 30 minutes after they purchase it. ;) View my profile for a list of articles I have written, am writing, will write. Tollon June 15, 2014 - 5:23pm | Every design had its fault, that's what makes design starships so fun. It also gives the ship character. |
Ascent June 15, 2014 - 7:05pm | By the way, who said it was a tube? Why couldn't it just be a hatchway from one section to the next? Then it is no longer "squeezed". A ladder just as easily traverses levels. View my profile for a list of articles I have written, am writing, will write. "It's yo' mama!" —Wicket W. Warrick, Star Wars Ep. KRingway June 16, 2014 - 1:45am | Even if it is a hatchway, the problems of getting around it are still there. |
Ascent June 16, 2014 - 4:17am | How so? You don't need to worry about "getting around it" if you need to escape. If you don't need to escape, it's not a problem. KRingway June 16, 2014 - 8:39am | Well, if you can walk across when it's not being used, then perhaps it might work. Maybe if it's some part of the floor until it's opened (i.e. it slides sideways into the floorspace). In that way it's also a plug/airlock. But then you have the problem of moving between floors... |
Ascent June 16, 2014 - 3:29pm | An inch of bulkhead isn't going to impede your step. It's barely noticible when walking. Using spiral-closing hatches is the way to fit the machinery in, because it just requires a series of sliding wheels and levers to shuffle the blades in and out of place. Full doors would requires more space to either side because of the force needed requires more bulk machinery. Though, if you make the full doors external to the bulkhead, you could fit the machinery inside the bulkhead and you would step up onto the doors rather than down onto them.
