Interesting, need to see about co-opting one of these strategies for a SF creature.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Actually, I always took the Vrusk for the best warriors.  The Yazirians just had the larger warrior tradition.  In my mind, the Yazirians make such a big deal of the warrior tradition out of a racial inferiority complex.  They finally meet up with other intelligent species and they are weaker and slower on average than all of them.  They are smarter than all of them as well but when it comes to a fight, they are the weaker man on the team.

Until you piss them off enough to go into their berserker-like battle rage, then all bets are off. Kiss

I have always imagined the vrusk to be very effective military units.  They are able to strike fear into human units by their perceived coldness toward precision killing.  I have some writing I started about the Vrusk Military Institute and the thoughts of one of their military commanders as he observed the first non-vrusk cadets.

I also think we focus a little much on the yazirian warrior culture and forget their strong scientific culture.  Yazirians are very intelectual.

I'm more interested in yazirian religious belief but then the warrior culture can be wrapped up in that too.

So we have a Yazirain Knights Templar group running around? Can you tell me where they keep the Maltese Falcon?
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

No idea about the Falcon, but find the yaz Knights Templar and you'll probably find their Holy Grail.

I think it would be interesting to explore what would constitute the vursk warrior ethic.

We know they love beauty and organized work spaces so clearly battle rage is alien to them.

I can see a vrusk warrior maintaining a zen rock garden then strapping on his combat harness and seemlessly transitioning form artist that works on a pallet of rock and plants to an artist that works on the pallet of death.

The samuri code of bushido did require the warrior to appreciate art. You could picture ranks of Vrusk company soldiers in functional but very artistic armor and weapons. Loyalty would be to their company but if the company were mercenary they would never break a contract unless the employer violated it first.

Couple of thoughts which build on other threads:

1. Vrusk Tai chi- or the group solidarity dance for military units is more a martial arts kata

2. Vrusk singing- since they use the spiracles on their abdomen to both breath and whistle and make other sounds its not hard to imagine vrusk soldiers marching along whistling the vrusk analog to the tune from "Bridge Over the River Kwai" this would be something that all of the coure four would be able to participate in.

3. flicking emotions with the antennae: not hard to imagine that the vrusk had developed very discrete antenna flicks for tactical situations when they didn't want any indiscrete gestures giving their position away
