Rum Rogue February 24, 2014 - 3:59pm | Soon I will be ritired and looking for something to do. The thought hit me to look into home 3D Printers and making miniatures. I have done a small amount of research online and am finding out there is still much to learn before I can settle on one. Does anyone have one? or at least played around with one? I was looking at extruded plastic to make the items and would like to know how much detail can be put into a creation. But then again I have talent with 3D software. I have seen some introductory programs that I may be able to use but I wonder how annoying it would be to import images into. Thanks Rum Time flies when your having rum. TerlObar February 24, 2014 - 4:17pm | The library at my wife's university has a MakerBot that I'm playing around with. My model apparently had some errors and wouldn't print so I have to go in so they can show me what was wrong. The MakerBot can print at up to 0.1mm resolution which seems to be typical for most "home" 3D printers I've looked at. I'm hoping to get the model done by the end of the week or early next so I'll let you know how it went. Ad Astra Per Ardua! Rum Rogue February 24, 2014 - 4:44pm | Cool. I think MakerBot is one that I have seen alot of. It had a nice beginner software suite with it. I think 5"x5"x5" is the max size item it could make. At least the article I was reading anyway. Time flies when your having rum. Im a government employee, I dont goof-off. I constructively abuse my time. |
KRingway February 25, 2014 - 2:23am | MakerBots are good and getting better. MakerBot also make a desktop 3D scanner, apparently: http://tcrn.ch/1lhT79B. That should be good for model makers. |

KRingway February 25, 2014 - 10:46am | Such things are getting cheaper all time (desktop 3D printers used to be amazingly expensive) so hopefully as the technology improves and expands we'll cheaper toys to play with |
