jedion357 February 12, 2014 - 1:09pm | Curious, Is the works of Burroughs in the public domain? How could we find out? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
TerlObar February 12, 2014 - 1:31pm | Well it's pre Micky Mouse so there is a chance that the copyright has expired. And all his books are available on Project Gutenberg which only provides books in the public domain as far as I know. So my guess is that yes, they are. Ad Astra Per Ardua! Malcadon February 13, 2014 - 1:20am | By copyright laws, yes. In practice... well... There is a legal case going on with Burroughs Estate vs Dynamite Comics (the producers of Lord of the Jungle and Warlord of Mars comics. The Burroughs Estate are charging that the risqué and nude pinup covers used by Dynamite Comics are detrimental to the image of the Tarzan and John Carter brand (likely do to the deal they have with Disney), and that they are infringing on copyright laws. Dynamite Comics holds that nudity is apart of both settings, and that the works have fallen into the public domain. I have no idea where this case is heading? As far a I know, Disney has not provided any legal support to the Burroughs Estate (thank god). |
