OnceFarOff February 4, 2014 - 7:19pm | Saw this on Drudge. Pretty wild stuff... |
jedion357 February 4, 2014 - 7:36pm | Pretty cool other than the temperature of 2960F!!!!!!!!!!! I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
TerlObar February 4, 2014 - 9:19pm | And they have no idea how much the planet's spin axis precesses (that the wobble's like a top part) or the planet's axial tilt changes. They can't even see the planet, let alone measure it's axial motions. But it could only move a degree century (similar to the earth's). This has to be coming from computer simulations as there is no way to acutally observe it. That doesn't mean it isn't but its all conjecture. The tilt of the planet's spin axis can vary by as much as 30 degrees over 11 years, leading to rapid and
erratic changes in seasons. Ad Astra Per Ardua! My blog - Expanding Frontier Webmaster - The Star Frontiers Network & this site Founding Editor - The Frontier Explorer Magazine Managing Editor - The Star Frontiersman Magazine |
OnceFarOff February 5, 2014 - 8:16pm | ^ Yeah, I thought that might be the case. But in Star Frontiers, this would be pretty cool. A scenario where the planet's environment itself is the enemy... |
Blankbeard February 5, 2014 - 11:35pm | Deathmas in July! Or Cloudy with a Chance of Yazirians. PGC installs an experimental weather control tower on a colony world. If it works correctly, it will double agricultural yields by extending the growing season and scheduling rain for night. Unfortunately, it malfunctions and everything within 500km i.e. the whole colony is being subjected to weird weather. Ice storms, heat waves, and random tornados abound. The PCs must reach the tower and shut it down. Unfortunately, the weather isn't the only thing the tower has driven crazy. 4000 kilo razorboars have gone into musk because of the weather changes, turning the normally reclusive but dangerous beasts into roving engines of destruction! Optionally, you could go full SyFy and run it as Cybodragonado. |
