Putraack December 1, 2013 - 3:29pm | Three summers ago, I introduced my son and his friends to Star Frontiers, using Savage Worlds rules. Something clicked, as one of the guys really took to the game. I gave him a CD with some of the downloaded rules, and he ran with it. They've mostly been playing D&D (3.5e or 4e) amongst themselves. He just showed me the Alpha Dawn box set that he bought with birthday money, and has announced to the gang that he will be running (probably Volturnus) over winter break from school. Straight rules, he says. One boy's said he wants to play a robot of some kind, so I am off to search for relevant articles for the new GM. |
TerlObar December 1, 2013 - 3:58pm | IIRC there are some rules (by Ascent I think) on running a robot PC in one of the Star Frontiersman issues. I'll see if I can run it down if no one knows where it is off the top of their head. Ad Astra Per Ardua! jedion357 December 1, 2013 - 4:20pm | One think you could do is have the PC be a cybot from the AD rules where the memory wipe of the brain was imperfect and his memories are returning much like robo cop. In this case the PC chooses skills the same as any other PC since skills are based on the orgabic brain not the computer processor. Physical abilities are based on the robotic chassis but mental abilities are based on the character's previous life. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 December 1, 2013 - 4:20pm | The pay for version of Stars Without Number has android PCs i believe. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Karxan December 3, 2013 - 9:07am | Issue #13 has the article by Ascent on roleplaying robot. Hope that helps. |
Karxan December 3, 2013 - 9:08am | Since the site is down, you can get the issue at rpgnow or I can send it to you. |
Putraack December 6, 2013 - 12:25pm | Sorry, I thought I replied to this already. I have the SFMan issues, I just hadn't looked yet. I keep them on a DVD-RW, and print off the tables of contents for reference. Right now, I am printing for him the "Roleplaying robots" articles (appeared in 13 and 14, to be continued in 15, but it's not there. Still looking) and the ones on cyber-implants that are in 14 and 15. |
