Hello all,

Does anyone know where to find Knight Hawks starship miniatures and schematics?

Thanks,

I have been wondering the same... I found some images of counters I plan to fiddle with. I am thinking I may have to figure out cardboard/paper ships. I need to find some space hex paper next...

Well if you want original KH mini's, you'll basically have to check e-bay.  I just picked up an unopened Federation ships box.  I got lucky and got it for $20 including shipping but they usually go for $30 or so.

There have been some discussions about reproductions and new minatures as well as other ships that might work scattered throughout the forums.  Use the search bar and do a search for "ship miniatures" and you should turn up the relevant discussion.  jedion357 tends to post minature information regularly.

I've seen some blogs detailing making molds with play fough and pouring new minis. You can check the various mabufacturers for ahips you feel fit. Ground Zero Games has an extensive line of miniatures with some that fit for frontier ships. Mostly I recommend their fighters since ther was never an offical SF fighter. And some of their freighters and transports which match frintier ships. As for schematics check the deck plans project on this sight.

Ship cross sections and deck plans, and potentially things like air vent diagrams. If you're lucky you'll locate a cross section with the deck plans.

Save for the Assault Scout and some Freighters, I don't think I seen a lot in the way of official ship schematics — just a number of fan-made deck plans.

True, KHs provided the deck plans and cross sections for 3 ships outside of a few modules everything else has been fan created. However, fans mostly settle for just a deck plan and not the extra stuff. I dont consider the other stuff extra but at a minimum a deck plan gets you by. The other stuff is nice to have though you can technically label a deck plan a schematic.

Other stuff that I've seen in schematics
1. Cross section of the ships showing deck and elevator relationships.
2. flow charts of the computer and access points
3. schematic of how power moves through the ship (this one is rare and I've only seen it once)

I just made counters using prints, illustration board cut into 1/2 inch squares and I also glued magnets (from 1/2 inch roll) to as many as I could (ran out of magnet). Also using superglue (specifically Gorrilla brand)

On a large whiteboard (with metal backing) my gaming group has been using a paint pen to place dots every 1 inch for D&D (remember when we used to have to specify AD&D?).  Anywho I found this commandline program that will generate hex grids in an image file of whatever size you want. I printed tiles of a big hex grid and taped them together to be able to fit on my whiteboard.

I got my whiteboard recently at costcos for 20 bucks and tax

I'm looking for the hex grid program now.

Here is what I used. I liked it because it can put hex numbers in a column/row format.

Plus I feel personally the frigate in the mini's is ugly. I like the one on the box art or the fan created one by somebody on this forum (sorry don't know who to credit)

KHs takes the "easy way out" of declaring that ships are so vastly unique that there are not standards. That might work if you're PCs are making their own ship but organizations like the UPFSF would have standard models. I bet if SF had gotten more development life back in the 80s we would have seem supliments for ship decks and stuff. Alas, our game was cut short.

RE ugly frigates I had a pile of engines for the battle ship that I ended up mounting on my friages (2 to a ship) they look much better that way. Scratch that they look damn good that way.

I bought a bunch of fighters from GZG and mounted them on a paper clip wire which was glued into a short bit of dowel. I then cut two 2 inch hexes of MDF glued them together drilled holes for the dowel with fighters (6 per stand- one hole close to each corner) fighter dowels are not glued into the base as this lets me pull fighter out of formation when they are destroyed or if I wish to split the formation. I drilled one more hole for a taller dowel dead center of the hex base and glued in that dowel and mounted a round wood "coin" (bought at arts and craft store) so that I could paint the coin with a Greek letter which lets me keep track of squadrons- each fighter squadron has a sheet with stat blocks for all 6 fighters and a greek letter matchin a stand. All stands and dowels were painted black and blend into the back

I didn't want to start a new thread but I was looking for ships and I think a few Star Trek ships like some of the Gorn ships might work for SF... scale may or may not be an issue... don't know as it is hard to judge from photos alone.

I also stumbled across an idea of painting ping pong balls as planets and putting them on stands. There are some toy planets that might work to, I will be looking for the toy set to see how big they acually are, again scale is an issue and I need to see it to know.

Well, one of my Christmas presents were paints and brushes so it's time I started attacking my pile of lead and getting my ships, characters, and creatures painted.  Plus rumor has it that I've got a shipment of sathar and UPF fighter minis coming from Delta (http://deltasdnd.blogspot.com/).  His write-up of creating the UPF fighter minis will be in the upcoming issue of the Frontier Explorer.

Delta is quite into using the ship minis for KH games and has a bunch of rules and suggestions in the KH posts on his blog (including his use of painted ping pong balls as planets) and I recommend checking it out.

I will, my hubby got me both of the original boxed games for Christmas... KH was missing it's hex map but I rummaged around and I think my FASA old Hex map will work.

I'm planning to use the small 1/2 inch chits I made from the original ones.

Do you think they are actually too small?

Not on the scale of one hex = 10,000 km.  If you're playing 1" = 10,000km with miniatures, then a 1/2 inch planet might be a little small.   The Earth is about 13,000 km in diameter so it would be a little bigger than one hex on the map or one inch at the table top scale for miniatures but that's not really a big deal.
