jedion357 November 24, 2013 - 12:14pm | Jaxon, this is a good two page article , you should think about submitting it to a magazine. Are the illustrations open for use? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Jaxon November 24, 2013 - 8:04pm | Thanks. The pics - probably not. I just typed skylab into google. |
jedion357 November 25, 2013 - 6:02am | Still, you should submit it and the magazine staff will figure out what to do about art. Perhaps there is some NASA public domain photos of Skylab available. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 November 25, 2013 - 6:10am | Come to think of it, this kind of station would be ideal for referees to throw into an adventure, their small and self contained and easy to handle as apposed to a huge size 1 or 2 station. If we do up some deck plans, (i reviewed the doc a couple days ago and cant remember if there were deckplans) and even some adventure hooks this would be a great article. Jaxon November 25, 2013 - 10:11am | Deckplan ~ Basically, the SkyLab (Type 2) had the docking adaptor and airlock module - that was 1/3 of the station. The remainder was cut in half between the sleep compartment/experiment room and the workshop/ward room. There is not too much to a floor plan. There was no privacy on the SkyLab. I personnaly like them because it goes with the SFMan#22, pg 52 Expanded KH Ship Design ~ specifically the docking collars and substations. SkyLab Type 1 is basically a HS:1 substation. I agree with you Jed about these. This is something that any Corp could buy or build, slap into a merchant ship or freighter and drop off in a place of interest. At 75,000 cr. for a Type I, if PCs were interested, they could buy one and hide it somewhere as a personal base. It could be in an unknown system orbiting a planet or in the asteroid belt in the White Light system. The only thing would be security. That could a security robot or two, a pod laser turret and a parabattery (limited shots with the PLT). |
Malcadon November 25, 2013 - 7:53pm | Neat idea. Although, they seem primitive with relations to the overall setting. Almost like cheap designs for backwater planets like our own. Plus, the lack of a grav-deck or spinning module would really test the health of the crew — they would need regular crew rotations if they are going to stay in good health. |

Ideal for an outpost planet where an adventure would be placed. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
