Hi, Frontier Explorers!

FE #6 is on the horizon and it will be exploring the Sinister Sathar that are seeking your soul!

Alright maybe it wont be that dramatic but we do have a sathar theme set for issue 6. If anyone wants to jump on board and do a sathar based submission now would be the time to start thinking about. I can say that in the area of fiction and planetary briefs we are filled up for issue 6 but all other submissions would be considered.

I say orient the Sather as a clan based, honor driven society. The lack of tech, I'm weak in an explanation for that but, for the cynaide capsules and blowing up their ships before they are boarded - think paranoid, fuedal Samurai ~ death before dishonor.

With the hypnotism and spy webs, they seem to be more social as opposed to technological. Even a spaceliner has a better Pilot and Engineer than them.

Mud Against the Wall (stealing this from Jed) - make most SAV ships manned by robots or Zuraqqor (or other slave race - Edestekai). They can be trained with something simple and excel to a certain level i.e. when the engine light comes on, then hit this button. Just the command crew would be Sather.

We all assume that the Sather race is vast or as big as the Frontier. (more mud) WHAT IF - the Sather are a dying race? This would explain the crew augmentation and why they are so few. You have a better chance to run into a Sather agent as opposed to a Sather. In the first adventure (Security Breach at PGC Compound) you run into 4 agents. The Sather commit suicide to hide secrets - blow up the ship so they think it is manned by only Sather. Granted, the bodies would show up in the space debris but, you get the idea. Maybe they are becoming sterile. Who knows.

Dying race is an interesting idea. Generally used for the klikks perhaps. But obvious questions: Do they ralize they are dying? What is their agenda in the face of oblivion? Why would they so carelessly use their troops as cannon fodder on Volturnus at the battle of Volkos if they are a dying race?

The title alone makes for the most honest or awkward what-ad in the history of the Frontier! Wink

If the Sather were a dying race it would seem more logical for them to be hiding out somewhere rather than mounting full scale invasions into frontier space.

The Sather in my campaign evolved from a highly prolific race that controlled its numbers with constant warfare and aggression. When their society finally made it to a technological level that could make them wipe themselves out the Sather leadership took a more controlled tactic. They at first created death games with rules as to what weapons could be used, and emphasized intrigue. When other species were discovered, they found a way to continue their warlike culture while preserving a united government.

In short they are deceptive and violent to the frontier because it is a better alternative than wiping themselves out. Outward war is a matter of survival for them.
Reasonable men adapt to the world around them; unreasonable men make the world adapt to them. The world is changed by unreasonable men.

@ Jacobsar: I like that though I'd likely mix in a few other elements. Clearly you've thought about quite a bit. You should write up an essay on that and submit it to the FE for the Sept 1st deadline for the sathar issue.
