TerlObar July 16, 2013 - 11:03am | Hello explorers! Issue 5 of the Frontier Explorer is now available for download from the website or DriveThruRPG. This issue provides a smorgasbord of articles from our submission queue on a variety of topics. We have several articles on gaming tips for both players and game masters to help make the game engaging and relevant to the players regardless of the game you play. There is new equipment as well as small cultural write-ups on a couple of the Star Frontier races. This issue includes a clean, redrawn version of the classic Assault Scout deck plans as well as an initial look at variations on that ship, and a solo adventure that uses those deck plans. We also delve into the internet archive to resurrect some lost material on a new Mega-corp and optional rules for dealing with the expenses of owning a starship. There is also a short story by another new fiction author, that takes place in a new setting. The issue content (articles) are:

jedion357 July 16, 2013 - 12:06pm | Ok so I'm about to crow a little here: I'm immensely pleased with getting this cover for the zine as I love this pic. I greatly enjoyed collaborating with Tom and Eric on various pieces of this issue these guys are awesome. I'm proud of the fantstic collaboration that led to a vrusk life in song- I may have put that submission together but a lot of people fed ideas into it. I hope everyone enjoys the Albatross adventure its largely the fruit of a day off from work with the kids at school and Toms help remastering the assault scout deck plans. I included extra clues to what was happening in the Albatross adventure so that anyone who wants to run it as a regular adventure could and has material for the obvious follow up for our brave star law man on Minotaur. In fact I just came up with an angle for using the Albatross as a Spring board for a Mini mooks with out number sequel Called "Venturing Beyond the Albatross". I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

Karxan July 19, 2013 - 10:21pm | Excellent issue guys. I am also thankful for your commitment to the timeliness of each issue. |
Malcadon July 20, 2013 - 11:27am | I really enjoyed the article about Assault Scouts. I even updated the SF Wiki to include them. I even added one of my own variant: The Pigeon-class Packet Ship. (It looks like a normal AS, but only mounts a single LB, and has luxury accommodations for important dignitaries.) |
TerlObar July 20, 2013 - 12:47pm | Great idea. I like that one. Didn't even think of a courrier version. I'm planning on doing deck plans for the variants in a future issue and I'll have to add that one in. Ad Astra Per Ardua! Malcadon July 20, 2013 - 10:41pm | Oh yeah, awhile back I made a page on Bombers that notes a type of Heavy Bomber that is built of the frame of an Assault Scout. It is fitted with three or four torpedoes at the cost of all other weapons, and is a little slower. Without defensive weapons, they require Fighter or Assault Scout escorts. |
