Min_Donner July 10, 2013 - 1:40pm | I've been over all the forums and was wondering if there is some sort of newbie thread that describes things like how to get into an online game or what a project is. I have the original SF materials and rules. I'm just trying to figrure out where to start. Thanks |
TerlObar July 10, 2013 - 3:20pm | First off, welcome! There really isn't a thread for new members. Although I think we just started one. Probably the best place to start is the What's New page. That way you'll see what people are currently talking about. It shows anything that is new since your last visit. The content of the projects, however, doesn't show up there unless you are a member of the project. The projects are typically used as areas for interested people to discuss or work on focused topics. Although some are designed to be collection areas (i.e. the ships and art ones) where material is compiled in a central locations. Browse through the project list and join those that look interesting (very few have closed membership). That will give you access to all the content in them (although most you can read without joining) and you can contribute your ideas and thoughts in the project specific forums as well. As for on-line games, the only (semi-)active one running right now is a play by post game runing on the http://starfrontiers.info sister site in the SF Modules Revisited: The Complete Old School Campaign forum. It's currently being run by jedion357. If you want to join in, it should be possible. Beyond that, browse the old forum topics and read thoses that catch your fancy. Feel free to revive old topics if you have things to add or want to disucss it more. Most importantly, when in doubt, start a thread and ask. It's a very friendly crowd here and we want to help you out. Questions about how to do stuff on the site you can just throw out and someone will answer. w00t is the offical site admin so any issues/concerns with functionality should be directed to him. I'm the backup admin as I host the site on my server. However, my main role is to keep the site up and accessible. I can handle problems if needed but I try to leave that to w00t to prevent any confusion. That said, if you are having trouble getting w00t's ear, feel free to ping me and I'll try to help. And don't be afraid to start a thread to discuss something that interests you. You'll probably get plenty of responses. Anyway, hope that helps. Ad Astra Per Ardua! jedion357 July 10, 2013 - 4:21pm | Welcome to the site. We're not too formal here, and by and large we dont have have much of the drama of other forums around the web so join in and contribute. As to games I took over the game that Tom mentioned, there is an ill defined NPC that could be taken over and redefined (meaning keep the name, race, sex and the job of doctor but otherwise choose up skills like the rest of the PCs and etc.) or confer with me by email work up a PC fresh- I'm open to ideas for working him into the game or I can suggest some ideas for working him/her into the game. PM me if you're interested. If anyone else knows of a game please shout out on that. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Shadow Shack July 10, 2013 - 6:28pm | Welcome to SF.us fellow SFer and Rebel rider. This site has numerous aspects to it outside of the forum. First and foremost are the "Projects" which ae well worth looking into. Not all of them are finished, most are works in progress (and some have been abandoned) but all offer fresh perspectives on the game. You'll find digitally remastered rule sets, altered rule sets, campaign ideas, alternat settings, ship stuff, and all sorts of other SF related topics that were deemed useful by a group of members to expand upon. Also, check out http://www.starfrontiers.com/ where you'll find PDF files of all the original rules and modules. Free. Can't beat that wth a stick. |
rattraveller July 10, 2013 - 6:37pm | Hey just look the lists over and read what interests you Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |

OnceFarOff July 11, 2013 - 5:55am | Welcome! I was in the same place you are now a little over a year ago. This is a great community! Be sure to check out the Star Frontiersman and Frontier Explorer fan publications as well. Lots of great content there as well. Also, I found with the projects that if there was a topic I was interested in, there is usually a project somewhere for it. Have fun! |

Welcome aboard. The crew here are a motley crew of the finest scally-wags this side or the Xagyg Nebula. @Shadow Shack, I listened to KLUC in high school. They didn't play too much Motley Crue back then. However, now when I find myself back in Vegas I can't stand KLUC with whatever type of music they have switched to playing. I think I last tuned to 98.5 four or five years ago. -iggy |

However, now when I find myself back in Vegas I can't stand KLUC with whatever type of music they have switched to playing. I think I last tuned to 98.5 four or five years ago. I bounced between KOMP (rock) and KLUC (pop/hits) back then. They both still cater to the same genre, but the problem is today's rock and pop/hits are no longer our cup of tea. Our music is now called "classic rock" and "80s music". In other words, we finally evolved into what our parents used to be. |
