jedion357 July 3, 2013 - 6:54pm | Looking for adventure ideas from Top Secret 1.) the Bundled module fromt he box set was Operation Sprechenhaltestelle which is German for "the place where speaking ends" and was a village close to the East and West German border where espionage abounds. something like this could work in the Frontier where a tight fisted authority might be in charge- Hentz and the Fo1, Pan Gal system or New STreel, choice of setting impacts the flavor of the adventure: Hentz would be more spy-ish while a corporate system would be more corporate espionage sort of story. 2.) Operation Rapidstrike- Commando Raid to recover a kidnapped scientist In the frontier you have decide: What scientist? Who kidnapped him and why? 3.) Lady In Distress: plot is not just based on the hijacking of the MS Achille Lauro by the PLO but the deck plan was based on the ship as well. PCs must para-sail onto the ship this sounds like fun actually- Royal Marines must stealthily board a star liner underway and neutralize the terrorist, rescue a member of the Royal Family, and prevent the self destruction of the ship. other complications will happen. 4.) Operation Fast Pass- a defection at a puzzle tournament held behind the Iron Curtin- probably inspired by a defection at a chess tournament- i think it was changed to a puzzle tounie to make it something the PCs could participate in game whereas a chess game would be a non starter for inclussion in a RPG game session. defection? I'd set this as a defection of a Fo1 leader looking to get to Gran Quivera but might lose the puzzle tournie though I'm currious as to what puzzles TSR came up with for inclussion in the adventure. 5.) Operation Orient Express- written by David Cook and this is simply 6 train adventrues set on trains in Europe. would be interested in looking at the module for use on monorails around the frontier. 6.) Operation Ace of Clubs: agents investigate happenings at the club/casino that is a front for the secret spy agency would think a Star Play angle is called for with this. 7.) Operation 7th Seal- agents deal with nuclear threat by terrorist that use tarot cards for code words. no thoughts hit me on using this one, probably need to read the module. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Shadow Shack July 6, 2013 - 4:51am | 3.) Lady In Distress: plot is not just based on the hijacking of the MS Achille Lauro by the PLO but the deck plan was based on the ship as well. PCs must para-sail onto the ship You know how I have mentioned numerous times about my love for the recycling of the Omicron mini-module included with the referee screen...this is one of the scenarios I played out once. I have always wanted to do a full SF rewrite of that module with a more complex set of deck plans. |
jedion357 July 6, 2013 - 6:12am | What size hull? I did a star liner deck plan way back (Truane Star Express) not sure now what the HS was but it was in the high teens and found that it was unweildly to hand at the table top. In thinking about this I thought that a smaller liner might be something easier to handle. Not sure I have the motivation to to a HS20 liner called the Titan anymore. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Shadow Shack July 7, 2013 - 5:12pm | IIRC the TS module had 5 decks, granted they are "parallel to main axis" per se versus KH perpendicular to main. I'm guessing HS:8 or so should do it. |
Putraack July 12, 2013 - 9:21am | I used the Rapidstrike floor plan for a mission when I ran Clarion Marines two summers ago. I declared it an asteroid base, and the motorboat on the lower level was a shuttle, of course. I thought I might use the Lady in Distress for the Marines, too, just never got to it. The train missions could easily take place on a starliner, too. I always had more interest in the missions that weren't commando (004, 006, 005), but my players way back then were more hack & slashers. I only got Seventh Seal a few years ago, so I've not thought too much about it. I have dreams of playing a solitaire spy game with my wife as the lone PC, but Real Life keeps getting in the way. Hmm, as I type this, I wonder about moving the plot (infiltration by an enemy spy agency) of Ace of Clubs onto another starliner. I remember reading about the NKVD and KGB using Soviet merchant ships as spy-support stations (radio transmitters, carrying documents and supplies)-- could one of the megacorps be running a spy network through a chain of liners? owned by the corporatiion, owned by another corporation, or owned by a front company? So, who's spying on who? Pirates could be looking for shipping information, for targets. Corporations spying on each other. Planetary governments could be spying on both of the above, as well as other planets (although I don't see planets invading each other in the Frontier-- the UPF would put a stop to it, and I don't think most worlds have the army or transports to take over another)? Mercenary companies probably have their own scouts, either looking for new jobs, or preparing the ground for upcoming jobs. |
jedion357 July 12, 2013 - 11:20am | What if the sathar & their agents were running the spy liner? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Putraack July 14, 2013 - 8:23pm | Definitely a possibility, esp. since the Ace of Clubs centered on agents who had been turned-- which ones? I forgot, there were two other adventures printed: the Admin's screen had one set in a "haunted house"-- I think the agents were to rescue the President from kidnappers? The other was in the Top Secret Companion (or similar title)-- it was sort of an Advanced Edition to the game. I never ran the adventure, but it had something to do with tracking down someone intent on sabotaging the space shuttle. |
