jedion357 May 24, 2013 - 3:02pm | I still think that the Disney movie "the Black Hole" would make a decent enough RPG adventure. witness this discussion: http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/5204 It's currently playing on our TV and it occurred to me that a truly SF black hole adventure would be an Ebony Eyes discovery adventure. The Dragon article had a KHs encounter set long after the discovery but the adventure could be set earlier with the Cygnus analog in the sweet spot balanced by the gravity of the two black holes need to kick around ideas for this I guess and even rip off more than a few from the disney movie. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
rattraveller May 24, 2013 - 6:19pm | Roleplaying can come into effect from about any action setting. This is the basic idea for all those movies based on video games, even ones with little story like Double Dragon and DOA. Take the idea and but a little more flesh on them bones. Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
jedion357 May 24, 2013 - 7:35pm | I was reading up on black holes while the girls were at girls scouts tonight. One thing for sure I think you almost have to have the derelick space craft on the verge of the gravitational malestrom like in The Black Hole. Whether its a long lost space ship from 20+ years prior lie the Cygnas or its a weird alien artifact. i would almost go a little Original Star Trek on this and have it be some powerful enigmatic alien power. One way or the other though I like the almost gothic feel of the Cygnus in the movie. I like the idea of sathar showing up on a small ship like a cutter and sending a competing team to claim the treasures of the "Cygnus" analog. I almost like the idea of a similar ending where the Cygnus analog goes into the event horizon of one of the black holes and its a escape the hulk or die challenge. What are the mysteries of the Cygnus analog? dont know but the whole zombiefied crew could work for one- its cliche but I still like it and its expected so why not go with it and twist it on its head a little. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
OnceFarOff May 28, 2013 - 8:38am | This is a great premise. I would think that if it were alien it would be a bigger draw. It would help explain the Sathar involvement and also justify the greater risk. Perhaps as a prize, there would be some sort of alien tech item that could impact whomever recovers it? Either one of the "Magic items of the Frontier" like in the SFman article, or perhaps an item that can be reverse engineered to lead the Frontier forward over the next decade. In my campaign with my kids, I used a crashed alien ship to allow for improved astrogation technology, which in effect has allowed ships in the Frontier to travel 2 ly per day if their systems have been upgraded with this new derivitive tech found at the crash site. Something like that would be worth fighting a war over. |

(Though, the 1988 version was deficient.) View my profile for a list of articles I have written, am writing, will write. "It's yo' mama!" —Wicket W. Warrick, Star Wars Ep.
