Corvus August 26, 2007 - 3:13pm | That means getting the word out about the site, not putting ads on the site. I have a couple places I want to pimp this site on, when we go live. They're both "geeky" social networking sites. Way of the Geek ( http://wayofthegeek.org/ ) is based around a contributor blog, but also has a forum (which, coincidentally, I co-admin). The Dire Café ( http://direcafe.ning.com/ ) is a networking site owned and run by Berin Kinsman (also known as "Uncle Bear"). That'll help get things started too. I'll mention it over at RPG.NET too. Anyone else belong to any forums/sites where they can mention the site? 3. We wear sungoggles during the day. It allows you to keep providing front page news items and quick links that makes locating the finished projects easy divided in the usual Rules, Modules, Magazines links on the side bar. Because people are going to have to hunt down the Remastered stuff in the ever-growing list of projects as it is currently set up. People don't have the patience for that or for directing people to the project if it isn't handily accessible. |
CleanCutRogue August 26, 2007 - 7:17pm | This is quite out of context with the original poster's topic, but I'll answer this. Why not keep a main page that looks like this forum and keep a page for finished projects? It allows you to keep providing front page news items and quick links that makes locating the finished projects easy divided in the usual Rules, Modules, Magazines links on the side bar. Because people are going to have to hunt down the Remastered stuff in the ever-growing list of projects as it is currently set up. People don't have the patience for that or for directing people to the project if it isn't handily accessible. I just figured people would use bookmarks for their favorite projects, to be honest. But if you truly must, you can always just use the search feature to find material. Notice that if you click "Search" with an empty search box, it takes you to a page where you can select "advanced search" criteria. It's pretty easy to use that advanced search to limit your search to just project pages. If someone's project is "finished" then it's just searchable site content where people can find it. I don't really see a point in labeling something "finished" really. If desired, people can make a statement that a project is complete in their project's front page. Remember also that profiles are open areas where people can put things, such as lists of links, images (like a personal gallery), or even a list of accomplishments leading you to content on this site (finished projects, etc). Or... I *could* create a simple table (like I do for issues) where people can see projects in a less attractive form but listed simply, with sort criteria etc. I could make a link to this list in the current Projects page (a button that says "View As Table"). I could then create a status dropdown for projects that a project manager can set: "Planning" "In Progress" "Testing" and "Complete"? 3. We wear sungoggles during the day.
