jedion357 September 13, 2012 - 1:45pm | Working up a named NPC for part 2 of Mooks in the Frontier Explorer and need a name. Open to suggestions. Note original model is red haired and first thing that came to mind is Red Sonja but thats been taken by a movie character. another idea was Tatiana; The Titainium [insert word that ryhmes with Witch and means about the same] but then we probably need to avoid the vulgarity for the magazine so thats no good. Not sure what I want but will know it when I see it or hear it. I do have one idea but need to look into a 90 year old sci fi movie and figured I see what you all might come up with. She's cold, deadly and not afraid to use her own sexuality and her crew fear her. This picture is only the first in may be a series of 2-3; the others will have more clothing though may not lack for sex appeal. warning this picture is a bit on the sexy side, show a lot of cleavage and my wife hates it but otherwise does not even qualify as a nude; so look either discreetly or not at all if raciness is a no no; and the gallery of the original model does have tastefull nudity so be warned before you go clicking around there but on the whole these pictures are fairly tame by today's secular standards. http://jedion357.deviantart.com/art/Sci-Fi-Pin-up-326984588 same pic on photobucket: http://s237.photobucket.com/albums/ff83/jedion357/Star%20Frontiers/?action=view¤t=SciFiPinup004.png Original model: http://vanessalake.deviantart.com/art/The-Spy-Who-Loved-Me-176974056 I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
rattraveller September 13, 2012 - 2:50pm | We are going with her pirate name that she has built her reputation as a cold blooded killer and wanting to strike fear into the hearts of those who hear it. How about Lividia Mistress of Death or something close Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
jedion357 September 13, 2012 - 3:21pm | Yeah this would be her trade name not whats on her birth certificate. The movie I was thinking of was Alraune a 1918 Hungarian science fiction/horror film based on a folk tale of a scientist that creates a child by impregnating a prostitute with sperm from an executed criminal and the result is a demonic child. It was remade again in 1928 and interestingly the movie poster has a red head on it (if i was a collector with money to burn I'd put that poster on my list of things to go after). In this movie Alraune is compelled to kill men who fall in love with her. and again in 1930 with the same actress as 1928 but aimed at greater realism and again in 1958 with a beautiful yet soulless and amoral woman. So the character is evolving in my mind as a beautiful red head, who is soulless and amoral and murderous. Since at least one of the movies released with an alternate title of Unnatural i think there should be something unnatural about this woman. First thing that comes to mind is cybernetics. other more alien things could be in play like sathar manipulation but then Mooks was not conceived as a sathar plot and I'm loathe to go there with it. So perhaps its some minor to moderate cybernetics that escalate the danger with her to a new level higher than that posed by the hapless Ramirez. But in some way i want her to be unnatural as a montage to the early sci fi/ horror films of the name Alraune. (the name is Germanic and I'm having a time of it trying to pronounce it) I'm toying with ways to preserve the named NPCs in the mooks series so that they can be re-used again latter. in her case the PCs may succeed at killing her but she would then come back latter down the road as a majorly cyberneticized opponent with the story being in that a loyal follower recovered her body and she was revived and some of the pieces put back together. I'll have to play around with a half terminator or borg queen version of this model and see what I come up with. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Shadow Shack September 14, 2012 - 2:32am | Linky no worky without an accounty. Although the first thing that I thought of when reading the description (which is spot on save for "the crew fears her" would be replaced with "the crew respects her") is a NPC human female pirate character I had in my reverse Volturnus post-game setting named Scarlet. For the life of me I can't remember her last name though. |
jedion357 September 14, 2012 - 4:11am | @ shadow: I like the name scarlet, a common name associated with red hair, new link: http://s237.photobucket.com/albums/ff83/jedion357/Star%20Frontiers/?action=view¤t=SciFiPinup004.png I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

jedion357 September 17, 2012 - 8:39pm | Alright the pin up girl just got demoted from the pirate crew. The following pic is the style of picture I wanted for the group of pirates in the first Mooks article. I was walking home from work and spotted two magazines on the ground next to a trash can, one a FX mag and the other a Tatoo mag and i took them home and tore out a bunch of pictures that I liked. From that came this composite of 4 different images into one picture with the vrusk being an adaption of the vrusk from the AD racial description. Toying with the names: Raven, Captian Shades, Skixx, and Big John though I'm not sold 100% on Captian Shades. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
w00t (not verified) September 18, 2012 - 4:41pm | though I'm not sold 100% on Captian Shades. Would be neat to following this band of jedion's throught their nefarious dealings. |
Shadow Shack September 18, 2012 - 10:12pm | Captain Shades looks latino...I'd go with "El Capitan". Good stuff. I may have to sharpen a few pencils and fire up my scanner ;) |
Karxan September 18, 2012 - 10:43pm | What about Scarlet Rose as her real name and The Scarlet Terror as her nickname. Both would use her given name but either one could be used as a description and name. A rose is beatiful and smells wonderful, but it has thorns. |

jedion357 September 19, 2012 - 5:12am | OK side question, how would you handle "forcing" a PC to fall for a dangerous but beautiful female character (Scarlet Rose)? For story sake I want to 1. establish her as willing to use her sexuality and so that latter during encounters she can taunt that PC (or I suppose NPC but a PC would be better) 2. establish her as dangerous but not so much in the take out a pistol and shove the mussel up your nostril way Ideas I've considered: 1. ask the player to make an ability check, if the dice say fail then hand the player a few paragraphs of what he remembers of meeting a beautiful red head and having a few drinks before then waking up in a flea bag dive hotel room with his pockets turned out and key to the ship missing I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

I'm thinking of the Orion slave girls in the episode of Enterprise where they wreaked all kinds of havoc on the ship by playing the men off against one another using thier pheremones in an attempt to take control. Maybe she found the pheremones on some strange planet during her travels and had a short range dispersal unit made up. |

Maybe she found the pheremones on some strange planet during her travels and had a short range dispersal unit made up. I do believe I created that item; a pheremone perfume, depending on the money spent you get a bonus to ability checks to influence a character. Normally its the PCs using PER or LDR to influence NPCs in game and not the other way around. But I suppose its fair game for major NPCs to try it on a PC as long as its not something that would totally go against the PC's character. Perhaps present it as NPC asks the PC to have a drink or consider a business deal. if the PC demurs then another encounter with another pirate trying to get the PCs alone but the aggressiveness is increased. if the pirates get the PC in a position where they feel they can act directly then they simply go for the tangler/stunner subdual and dispense with charm.
