Nobody seems interested?  :-(

Anyway - William and Larry are working on issue 18 and I helped them a little bit here and there with some new layout stuff.  I had a discussion with Larry about a Star Frontiers themed card game idea I had and he thought it seemed fun, so I offered to stat it all out and submit it to the 'zine if there was space in issue 18.  They were cool about squeezing my article in at the last minute (they didn't bump anyone else; this is a PDF and specific page counts don't matter -- thanks for squeezing me in guys!).  I've playtested the game quite a bit with my kids and Larry (and a few houseguests) and we had a blast.  I sincerely hope some of you guys print and play and have fun!

The primary mechanic of the game is press-your-luck.  Players represent captains of salvage ops teams sent by five megacorps with conflicting interests and varied types of training.  Since they all arrive at the scene of a drifting derelict Sathar heavy cruiser at the same time, interstellar salvage laws apply... you push your luck and skill and try to get salvage from the ship before it self-destructs, avoiding deadly hazards along the way.  Be the one with the most salvage points when the last section of the ship explodes, and claim corporate bragging rights over your friends :-P

I made the cards in such a way that you can print them from the PDF directly onto Avery business cards - which you can buy at Walmart for a couple bucks.  This is the first time I've developed a board/card game for the frontiersman, but if you guys like it I'll try to do more in future issues.  I'll admit I'm a bit nervous because I know the webzine is a venue for Star Frontiers RPG stuff... but since this is part of the 30th anniversary series, I thought anything themed Star Frontiers would be pure goodness...   Please offer some feedback?  Like the idea?  Hate it?

I think it's a great game for younger kids that don't like RPG's. With this game they can enjoy the SF genre. Every kid needs to know what a quickdeath is!

I'm interested.  I didn't comment here, but shared w00t's G+ posting with friends I know are into gaming, they thought it was a cool idea too and would be checking of SFMan & SF.us (they had never heard of the SF Revival).

So when does issue #18 come out so we can print/play? ;)

I will plat it once 18 is done. I am going to print it out and see if my 15 year old daughter will give her old man some sci-fi fun time with her. :) Maybe we can get a game made for Laco's War or Outpost #1???????? Maybe?

if I  wasnt so pressed for time I could have used some of your great 3D ship ar, AZ_Gamer!  i used a rather simple but well-made Sathar heavy cruiser made by w00t, just a silhouette.  for player salvage ships I did the same thing with a silhouette of my own design.

Maybe if I build a nicer version of it on some print-on-demand site I'll talk to you about some ship art :-)

I think the official word is "Right after GenCon is over" but I think they're pretty much ready with it.  Just dotting some i's and crossing a few T's, ya know?  Now that FrontierExplorer001 is out, Larry & William are just giving it a polishing to make sure it compares.... FE01 was really cool!

I have long considered making a "Laco's War" game based on my MegaCorp board game rules... (a strategy game simulating interstellar corporate warfare).  It would have to be changed and adapted and made all Star Frontiersy... but would be really cool.  The only problem is that it's not perfectly condusive to a print & play magazine scenario.  Unless people print out 4 pages and scotch tape them together as a game board, I guess that would work.  The game also uses a lot of small colored cubes representing cargo containers of different types of resources.  Not sure how we'd accommodate that in a print & play scenario.  I'd also have to integrate some new themes to the game to make it a bit more violent.  Would be a lot of fun.  It might have to level the playing field a bit too... I can see the arguments now... Can I play Pan-Galactic Corporation?

I printed a copy on regular paper and played with family tonight, we had a blast. :-)

I'm going to bring it to GenCon tomorrow, might get a chance to play with some of my Star Frontiers human'ish friends.

Anyone give the print & play a try?

I went ahead and ordered the cards from a company that makes business cards with rounded corners with gloss, like a deck of poker cards.  I'm eagerly awaiting their arrival at Casa de Logan

Haven't gotten that far yet.  It's been crazy here with getting back from vacation and then school started today.  Maybe by the weekend.
