The Nekronisphere originally were massive colony ships designed by the Rofaran to establish new colonies and escape the phage plaque on their Homeworld. When the surviving rofaran departed, some decided to remain behind hoping that a cure would be discovered. These Survivers became known as the Skrannids who cast off their Rofaran culture and embraced a new identity known as the Nekrosians. The Rofarans left several colony ships for the Skarranids hoping they would embrace a better life by leaving their doomed world. Unfortunately, they chose to go a different way, and converted the remaining colony ships into massive warships which would later be known as the Nekronispheres.
