jedion357 June 6, 2012 - 10:21am | Had an idea this morning; post apocalyptic setting ala after humans have disappeared from the earth. Robots are carrying on their own civilization and the PCs are robots. Mysteries and unanswered questions abound related to what has happened in the past. No simple answers there, with multiple causes contributing to the fall of planet earth, and supposed death of humanity. Character classes are security/combat robots, maintenance/technitian robots, butler/protocol robots (butler and other servator robots have become the priest of the cult of the maker) could also be room for cybots with slightly corrupted programing and possibly emerging psionic powers. Call it Gama World meets Walle. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
rattraveller June 6, 2012 - 12:18pm | Seems interesting, would the Mechanons be involved in anyway? Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
jedion357 June 6, 2012 - 3:42pm | I wasn't basing it on the Frontier, but rather Earth. Naturally there could be a faction of aggressive robots. Perhaps military robots still fulfilling some form of their original programing. PC robots who are the fighters are merely security robots. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
rattraveller June 7, 2012 - 5:26am | Does beg the question of what buildings and technologies would they keep? Houses? Farms? Factories for luxury goods like skateboards, Xbox, art supplies? Movie theaters? Stock Markets? Food production places from canneries to Burger King? Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
jedion357 June 7, 2012 - 6:04am | Without humans around to care about certain things those things will fall apart. However it could be an opertunity to comment on modern society by what the robots have saved, adapted to other purposes, and what they have scorned to save. Might even be able to explore the "emerging humanity" of robot/android kind as well as "robot's inhumanity to robots" Ray Bradbury's passing has me thinking about fiction and that this setting would have some legs for a story or two. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
rattraveller June 8, 2012 - 6:23am | Thinking a whole story could be done on robot fashion. Not just clothes but something akin to the "upgrades" in the cartoon movie Robots (with the voice of Robin Williams). Besides functional their were clear class distinctions and even some seperations of peoples by changing the outer layer. Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
Karxan June 8, 2012 - 10:46pm | What about robot entertainment? Do they need entertainment? Maybe before the organics died off, there were robots participating in sports and then they just kept up with the competitions. This morphed into specialized robot sports. Maybe some type of play/theater with robots from before the end of humanity. Now there is this very old, slightly deranged, robot from before and he gives the pc robots information. |
