According to New Scientist, 500 kilograms worth of these spacecraft could push a 250-meter wide asteroid at least 35,000 kilometers off course, which would be more than enough to remove pretty much any chance of a collision with Earth.

Sounds like a great idea maybe they could redo the time involved with improvements in technology.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

It's just about shifting the velocity vector of the asteroid.  More/larger masses would have a greater impact (pun intended) and move more/later or move a bigger object.  The main thing is that you don't want to hit it with anything big enough to break it.

Stoping Mountains with Sand Storms.... Cool
Oh humans!! Innocent We discover a galactic community filled with multiple species of aliens, and the first thing we think about is "how can we have sex with them?".
