jedion357 April 9, 2012 - 7:52am | I got to say the freakishness of the heliope from star mist is such that to see one walking down the street would really wig people out. At what point would Star Law allow them off star mist to travel the Frontier openly? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
w00t (not verified) April 9, 2012 - 9:18am | Who's to say they can be kept on-planet? -- You could if you buy the whole plague planet conspiracy theory. Why would a heliope venture off planet, what is the motivation? What about Ul-Mor's or Edestekai's, they are pretty freaky as well. |
jedion357 April 9, 2012 - 9:52am | For me the heliope is the most freaky-ish. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
rattraveller April 9, 2012 - 11:36am | The Heliope are a primitive culture or at least a low tech one. They would require a good deal of assistance to function in the Frontier culture. Now we do have the example of Native Americans being brought to Europe during 16th Century to draw on but that contact was limited. Also the question of why the Heliope would want to leave their planet is pretty valid. This one would require some thought into the Heliope way of life and culture. Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
Karxan April 9, 2012 - 5:59pm | Any of the low tech cultures would require help to get off planet and then like has been said what is the motivation. There is a Polyhedron article About an Ul-Mor who was taken by pirates and then left on, I think it was Lossend. The pc's find this strange creature and there is the adventure. You could have one individual Heliope who gets some kind of wanderlust and hooks up with some crew that has visited Starmist. but in the end any stray individual will need to have some help to navigate the Frontier culture. I don't think the mixed races planets would have as bad of a reaction to new species of sentients wandering around as much as one of the planets that are more species oriented. |
rattraveller April 9, 2012 - 9:08pm | Let's say a group of anthropologists studying the Heliope make such an impression on a group of younger ones that they go back with them to see what the other planets are like. Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
Karxan April 9, 2012 - 9:21pm | @Rattraveller: The last one would be a perfect adventure for some pc's to take along an Heliope npc and help them find their origins. That could lead to all sorts of places across the Frontier. |
