This thread is for players to communicate with me leading up to the con game.

Players should post info on the PCs like at a minimum Ability scores and skills (including the skill levels as you get some choice there) as stated in the player info PSA is irrelevant since this is one shot and there will effectively be no advancement during the game.

Again AD skills areas are too narrow and the game requires a broader selection of science and scholar skills for this adventure so make your skill choices from the Skilled Frontier article in Issue 9 of the SFman. With the caveat that every character must have at least one science, scholar, or scout skill. Your are all adventurer archaeologist much like Indiana Jone, Luara Croft or that other guy from The Mummy.

Craft a character concept and reason for your character's expertese to be on the team. Use this thread to introduce us to your character. You can read up On TIT but its not required see docs here: http://starfrontiers.us/node/5480

Players will have some decissions to make by or on the day of the game:
TIT is sending along Vi-k'tr as support/advisor see here: http://starfrontiers.us/node/5485
he can be left in the hotel or taken along to the field your choice.

Team has been dispersed a standard 1000 Cr stipend for equipment.
Vi-k'tr has arranged for water and food and basic supplies (tents, rope, and archaeology tools like shovels- you can assume these are available to you- you can further ask for a item from the supplies and if I think its there its there or I may roll %dice to see if its there) as well as 1-2 jetcopters (determined by number of players and possible pilots- one of you can fly these things right?)

EDIT: a pilot not required, NPC can fill that roll for you or you can have a pilot among the PCs (flying skill is largely about getting you to base camp)

One of you really ought to have some medical skill or we could witness that rare animal called TPK (I'm not to inclined to run NPCs to plug holes in the party skill set especially if there is a full group of players).

Computer and technician skills could be handy at some parts. And the title of the game should inform you as to whether you need fighting skills- at least fighting skill per character will come in handy- Indiana Jones, Luare Crost and that other guy.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Anyone wanting to play a yazirian of a traditional bent can take an ill defined traditional Yaz cultural skill that confers skill with the yaz honor blades both the zamra and the khad'dan as well as scholarly knowledge  related to all things yazirian- the sholar part wont come into play too much in the game but I'll allow this skill. just not as a way of taking extra weapons skill and neglecting scholar skill, if it was for the pilot character who also had computer skill and this skill was his "scholar" skill that would be cool. Instead of carrying side arms he'd have the throwing zamras and the sword.

What ever you do come up with something you can have fun with. EDIT: this skill would also confer the ability to make items except the items have to be from the primitive yazirian equipment thread intitles the coremake four project- this is basically the make items subskill from environmentalist skill in AD.

Tom/Jedion re-posting from your email.

PSA is irrelevant, so pick skills from “A Skilled Frontier” Star Frontiersman Issue 9.
Each character can have either:
  • one 2nd level skill and two 1st level skills
  • one 3rd level skill and one 1st level skill.

Other than the above stipulations generate a AD style character. Equipment skien suit, tool kit for a skill requiring a tool kit, a free side arm (pistol) and holster and 500 cr more of equipment. Any character with a shooting skill can have a free long rifle and two clips.

Revision: I just realized that vehicle piloting was not critical; origianal thinking was that you needed it to fly and set up base camp but NPC pilots can do that for you. I was also making allowances for sand box actions where the players may use a air vehicle in an unexpected move. But the word Delve sort of suggest where most of the action will take place so if no one takes a piloting skill its all good.

Also In response to a question by w00t: you have 5 free exp to spend on a racial ability or an ability score.

Team skill set:
Larry-w00t /Dohm the dralasite: Laser weapons and medical plus lie detection 10%

Gog has been fascinated by archaeology since he was a kid and discovered some ancient human movies about adventurer archaeologists.  His clan prides it's self on producing fine hunters and soldiers but Gog augmented that with history and eventually gained himself admission to Triad Institute of Technology to study archaeology.  His outdoor skills won him respect as someone very useful to take into the field.  Unfortunately Gog has not found the adventure side of archaeology just digging in the dirt, so he spends his spare time in the field hunting to get that feel he craves from the movies.

Gog is fond of pretending and often day dreams when he is not interested in what is going on around him.  He is known to talk to himself and imaginary characters while pretending.  This caused him some grief as a youth as others would tease him.  As a result Gog can get angry easily and guards himself to not get mad.  Thus he can battle rage on 10 (his +5 exp expenditure).

Background

Gupta is a geology field technician.  Earlier in life he was a professional history re-enactor, but there wasn't much money in that.  He has a strong math background, and his particular special talent is creation of custom algorithims for portable geoscanners to discern natural geoprocess soil strata from patterns matching strata specifically disturbed by tool digging.  He has also been experimenting with algorithims for tracing subterranean fungus and bacteria growth.
Gupta owns very little, and tends to spend all his free credit on travel and tame adventures.  He is a handball fan, and a pretty good player.  Years of work out-of-doors and on digs has given him a pretty decent physique and good bush-sense.

Gupta has three prized possessions.  All three are Human-design sweatshirts he wears at every opportunity.  One is from Triad Institute of Technology.  The second is too, but has his department's lettering across the back "Aquisition Service Specialist".  The third is from his former school, Central Lossend Institute of Technology.  All have large lettering.

Background

Military PSA Lvl 2: Gyrojet
Agent Lvl 1: Stealth
Scout Lvl 1: Survival

Keegan spent his early years in service with the Militia. He never saw any real action but learned to adequately and safely handle weapons as well as some scouting and survival skills. His heart wasn't in a military career so he drifted around from job to job; usually serving in a security position. One day it happened to get involved with the Acquisition Service of the Triad Institute of Technology and enjoyed the work as well as the friendships. However, his heart my lead him away after a time. Keegan seems to suffer from a mild case of the Seven Year Itch.

Keegan is laid back most of the time and tends to not take himself or situations too seriously. However, he does seem to have need for excitement. His outlet for this usually surfaces in a compulsion to gamble. While not an addict, he often passes time with friendly, low stakes games of chance and even betting on dares with friends. There are currently no known problems with this behavior, but close friends worry that someday, it may get out of hand.

Keegan performs some fairly mundane taks for the Aquisition Service. He does some basic digging, cleaning, crating and hauling. He also does basic camp security. This usually comes in the form of keeping aggressive native life forms (99.9% of the time it is non-sapient) from the camp/dig perimeter. This sounds much more exciting than it is. Most of the time you will find him behind a hand of cards and next to an open bottle. (However, he is not a drunk.)

I was thinking rope, shovels, tents, food water etc as team supplies perhaps machetes and radiophone magnigoggles seem more like personal gear to me . However the team does have 1000cr discretionary cash they can discuss on how they spend it. Could conceivably be used to bribe an NPC though not likely in this adventure. You also have the option of trying to talk Victor into authorizing more cash than the 1000,he may do so despite being anal and tight with institute funds especially since he has an interest in vrusk history. Though crazy request to get a recoilless rifle will likely not be authorized.

I edited my sheet, making the magnigoggles personal gear. I didn't crunch the numbers, but Keegans premium whiskey may be a little less than top shelf considering the price of magnigoggles. Smile I also tossed in some archaeological tools so we can get a basic idea (approval) of the types of tools that would be lying around. I assume that they wouldn't be too different that what is used today.

AL worked for RIK as a body guard for the TIT professors going off campus if they had any threats agianst them. AL, as he was called, was escorting the director of TIT(Dajana Juranac) to an outdoor Vrusk orchestra concert. Al volunteered for this assignment because he loved music, even playing the flute himself. Growing up in RIK though, he was expected to be some type of enforcer, but he pursued his music interests in his spare time. He would take these boring assignments since the other guards did not like music as much as he did.

While at the concert, an assassin tried to attack Ms. Juranac, and AL, using his trusty blast ax took the assassin down. He ended up sustaining injuries to his legs and was hospitalized for awhile. Ms. Juranac came to see him and thank him for his heroics. She had also found out that Al was permanently injured and would now only be able to walk as fast as a human. RIK had strict rules about their bodyguards being in top shape so AL was going to be behind a desk from now on. So Ms. Juranac offered AL a job in the TIT aquisitions department to help gather and study ancient Vrusk music. He jumped at the chance, and when he recovered he joined up.

Team skill set:
Larry-w00t Dohm (D): Laser weapons and medical plus lie detection 10%
William-Karxan   Al (V): melee, Beam, scholarship in ancient music/ancient langauge; comprehension
Troy-inigo /Keegan Shant: Gyro-jet, environmental
Art-Gupta Woydblig (D): Environmental, thrown weapons, computers
Eric-iggy  /Gog Malla (Y): Gyro-jet, history, navigation
Elijah / ?: ?

Team equipment that will be at base camp when you set up (subject to change but always in a good way):
  • Motion Tracker
  • Large rucksack full of rope (720 m worth) plus climbing gear total weight is 35 kg (note if you take rope 25m weights 1 kg) and because I like to rock climb and repel I'm aware of ways to use climbing gear as block and tackle and will allow your characters to do the same).
  • 10 safety helmets with mounted light- treat as flashlight you wear instead of hold and helmet may save you in a cave in. Light has same endurance as a flashlight.
  • 10 flashlights
  • four lanterns 1kg each same endurance as the flashlights
  • 200 liter drum of water
  • 12 canteens 2 liter capacity
  • Rations 2 weeks for the whole team
  • Jumbo sized Vitasalt pills 100 count
  • 6 machetes
  • basic first aid kit- just enough medical supplies to perform first aid subskill 3 times
  • 2 tarps
  • 2 wall tents (one intended as a command center and one intended as an infirmary but you decide how you use them)
  • 5 slightly larger than pup tents (intended that you have enough sleeping space at two per tent for all PCs and any conceivable NPC at camp
  • 1 mule bot (check out the big dog videos on you tube) i havent statted him out yet but rough terrain quadupedal robot to lug stuff for you
  • Solar Energy Collector: like a generator without maintenance cost but only collects 2 SEU/hour (that number chosen to make it less effecient then a type 1 generator)
  • One type 1 parabattery for base camp equipment
  • 1 radiophone (terledrom is a hvy population planet so I assume plenty of infrastructure in place for the radiophone to connect you back to civilization)
  • Hand computer (see Dark Side of the Moon module think laptop) 2kg uses 1 seu/hour and runs off camp parabattery or 20 seu clip. It has analysis, communications, and information storage programs plus integral com device. Allows for computer support while in the field.
  • case containing 1 wide field recorder (sfman 1) case is foam lined with place for recorder sphere plus slots for 5 20SEU clips and 5 holo disks

Al requested and was shot down by victor to obtain a motion tracker for the team
I had judged that Victor didn't see the need for it but if the right information was obtained he would approve the purchase since Al (William) came close to the information that would have triggered the player handout that would have justified this expense Victor was swayed despite the fact the hard info was not brought to light.

Al wrote:
Victor, When exploring ruins it is good to be prepared. The cost of the motion tracker would save us from any unessarsary accidents in running into wild creatures, causing us to hastily defend ourselves and damaging the ruins. Also, it could be used to do a little mapping and we could bring back the information stored in its data base for further study, saving some trips to the site itself. So I see it as a win, win for the institute. AL

Purchase approved: motion tracker and appropriate power supply will be at base camp
Perception is that Victor may have twitched his antenna in irritation at Al for what must surely be a frivolous expense so that the "boys can play with toys" but to himself he subvocalized, "Best not to skimp on safety just in case the worst happens after all our insurance premiums could go up if we have to payout benefits to Al's family."

Victor can be a NPC resource at either in the field or back at civilization. If he is "back at civilization" you'll be in radio contact with him and he can run stuff down, look up clues, or use his skills in vrusk civilization to help you or even find a university expert for higher skill expertese on a tough question (though that could take hours) In the field he'll be on hand but has no combat skills though will defend himself as best as possible. Your choice as a team to what you want to do with him.

GMs note: until game time tomarrow I consider you to be on Cassidine or in transit by starship which puts limits on the information available; basically what may have been transfered via subspace or what may already have been part of the public record.

Victor, "That was the first thing on the Vrusk Atlas Manufacturing Corporation team's agenda to investigate, unfortunately only one member of that team returned and my latest information on him is that he slipped into a coma. There is nothing in the download from VAMC on the monolith or the carvings on it that were reported by the SAR commander. I can arrange a meeting with our laison from VAMC upon arrival in Cassidine."

EDIT/Status update: In about an hour I'll be taking the girls to girl scouts and if they are not hosting a swim meet at that location I'll try to get in some laps; if thats the case I'll get back to any queries after about 8m eastern. If the swim meet is on I'll hunt up a cup of coffee and work on statting out a few things I still need to do for the game and I'll keep checking for your queries.
