jedion357 October 24, 2011 - 2:46pm | I may have stated this in another thread and if I did apologies. Bit my feeling is that if a hull has space to fit a weapon it should be able to do so. How ever I'd also like a system of weapons similar to engines: grade A, B, C. Typically you'd find grade A weapons on the same ships as have grade A engines and the same for grade B and C. However if a if a designer wanted a grade B laser battery on his HS 4 Corvette it could come as a rude surprise to an assault scout crew. But the trade off is that increases in grade eat up more space so that Corvette will pack fewer guns as a consequence of having a really big gun. It would change the game so that capitol grade ships (C grade) are required to take on other capitol ships and cruiser grade focus on other cruiser grade ships and small craft or gun boat grade take on others of their size class more or less- there will always be room for seemingly unequal match ups. Also when you get into the larger size vessels there will be seriously more weapons on say a battleship and some sort of volley fire rules will be required to make them playable. If you want to try to shoehorn that into your smaller ship, go for it but it will eat up precious space and power. I also agree with the multiple weapons sizes. Ad Astra Per Ardua! So miss-matched engagements may be a more common occurance. Though on a one on one battle a frigate should take the option of running when opposed by a heavy cruiser. |

Damn Straight but what I was thinking was a crusier opposed by a number of smaller hulls. or a capitol ship opposed by a cruiser and a couple of support vessels. No doubt once the capitol ship player figures out what he's doing he'll concentrate fire on a small ship and totally take it out of the equation in one turn, accept the licks it will take then concentrate fire on another small vessel and take it out of the equation in one turn and accept its licks then focus on the probably out gunned cruiser. Classic Star Fleet Battles strategy: blow up the smallest vessel on the map in the first real turn of combat so that its destruction causes damage to the other ships around it then pick on another vessel; sure that leaves vessels untouched but by killing a small ship you totally deprive the opponent of a gun platform.
