General Announcement

I was asked by http://www.colonialchrome.co.uk/ to remove several images that are not in the public domain. I'm in the process of working with our users to have them removed.

I have to say I'm disappointed in the request, many people enjoy his images. One of the finest forms of compliment is re-posting publicly available images (make sure to give credit) which should cause additional interests in the artists works. I'm sure our users who posted content has admiration for Colonial Chromes work and would wish to encourage his continued efforts.

In the future please read the website legalities before posting images on this site.

Obviously I missed the legal disclaimers on that site...I personally have no problem with having others recycle my work for their games, especially when credit is given. The guy is a stickler for not allowing that, it's certainly within his prerogative. An honest mistake, I'm going over my other stuff just to be sure now.

I do question some of the requests for removal, at least one on the list was purely mine but I'll go over it with a fine toothed comb regardless. I have my own graphics I can swap in and get some of those reposted, I just liked his interior stuff better. Not a big deal, it'll just take some time.
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out

You think he's a stickler? Have you read his space monkeys page? Reminds me of Shadow's "Dude Man" pages.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Hmm, copyrighting images derived from prior "fair use" is an interesting strategy.

I came across this essay (http://www.templetons.com/brad/copymyths.html) while investigating the legality of using a 3d version of the star frontiers map (star/planet names only with basic distances, no races, corporations, etc) as a 30th anniv tribute to SF in the next alpha test of my web-based strategy game.  #6 and 11 seem to apply somewhat to the usage of images.

Yeah, I saw the core of space monkeys. He obviously has less patience than I for such folk, I like to string 'em along for the ride just to see how far they'll go.

No idea how the UK laws work, it's easier to just resubmit these things with my own stuff if there's going to be a stink.
