 October 7, 2011 - 7:05am | First off the campaign title is still tentative, Larry had some suggestions but I can't find them just now. Concept is a series of modules adventures set in Truane's Star that will start out beginning characters, function as a possible prequel to the Volturnus series, paint a new corner of the Frontier that has not seen much detail yet. In order for the series to be a prequel to Volturnus it needs to set up the PCs to gain enough notoriety to explain their being chosen for the Volturnus mission but not quite so much as to be "all hail the conquering heroes". The kick off adventure is "Bounty on Death" and I have a follow up with a working title called Granger which involves New Pale.. I've toyed with trying to work in a four horseman of the apocalypse motif- Death Rides on a Pale Horse- picking up the planet's name. I just don't want that to come off as contrived if I do it. Seeing as how there were food riots on Pale, Famine could be worked into this and War definetly applies to the Granger adventure. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
October 7, 2011 - 7:14am | If I do go with the horseman motif I guess the campaign could be called Apocalypse Pale. Thinking maybe I might work in a tauntaun like cold weather mount that would be referred to as the Pale horse. Perhaps the snow cat gets trashed during the Bounty on Death adventure and the PCs are forced to improvise with live mounts- the presence of these creatures would also explain what the quick deaths have been eating. That is actually a good idea one way or the other i'll have to detail this creature. Perhaps one way to pick ip this motif is to have the "nose art" on Kildare's snow cat be of Death. October 7, 2011 - 7:29am | At first the Granger adventure was going to be #2 but since the food riots were a backdrop for that one it'll be pushed to #3. Its synopses is that Streel as the emerging megacorp is angling for more control of the economy on new pale since it has largely gained control of the political process on Pale. There is a lot of grass roots resurgence on new pale. So the food riots are being used by the government of pale to take over the government of new pale and it s ag economy. Part of this situation is Streel needs to take a new pale pitician out of the equation and has framed him for a murder on Pale. The pcs will be serving a warrant to bring him back to Pale. The kicker is that he really is the terrorist that Streel says he is and is planning something big I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
October 7, 2011 - 8:24am | Adventure #2, will have the working title of Famine. Setting is Pale. Historic backdrop is the food riots. With much of the actual reconstruction since the war winding down and veterans and construction workers swelling the bread lines food riots errupt. Not sure what the action will be in this adventure but that's what I have so far. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
October 7, 2011 - 8:30am | Bounty on Death and Granger started out as stand alone adventure ideas but with this becoming a series and if the horseman motif is used then I almost have to work in a fourth adventure involving pestilence. No clue for that one yet though with the Thing being previewed and memories of being scared silly while watching the original from the roof of a van at the drive in over twenty years ago and the fact Pale is a snow covered planet there could be the possibility of ripping that off. October 7, 2011 - 11:04am | Remind me again what the Granger adventure is? see my 2nd post in this thread plus you might know it by its other working title: Omicron Rising PCs are dispatched to serve a haebus corpus warrent and bring a "terrorist/murderer/ criminal" back to Pale to answer for the murder of a Streel executive. Its a frame up and the PCs may or may not discover this. The fact that they may discover that they're after a framed man and can only get paided if they bring him in is designed to put them in a bit of a moral delima- though I know plenty of role players who wont care about moral delimas I thought that at the time this would be interesting.Turns out that he actually is a terrorist and is planning something big on New Pale. Through Streel's instigation, once New Pale politicians began talking of nationalizing Streel's properties on New Pale- the Peace Keeper battalions raised to put down the food riots are being sent to new pale to occupy and annex the light population planet. The terror/ political group Sons of Cygnus Omicron are planning to seize the newly finished planetary defense cannon and shoot the troop transports and shuttles down as they enter orbit. PCs will be hot on his trail as this plot is going down. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
October 7, 2011 - 12:42pm | So my tenative map: 1. Bounty on Death. Location outback of Pale. Sathar surviving since the war and looking to unleash death and distruction- preventing the planetary defense cannon from fully coming on line which will allow a sathar fleet to swarm the planet yet a second time. Outcome- some notoriety for the PCs though Star Law is suspicious of them for being involved with sathar during their little adventure 2. Famine/ food riots- Location Point True, Pale. PCs are most probably accidental heros- perhaps Hilo Headrow of Streel runs into them during the riot and offers to hire them to get him through the rioters to safety. Famine should be engineered in some way, meaning its someone's fault. Perhaps an as yet undetected sathar agent following his own agenda of social disruption that should have happened in conjunction with the previous sathar plot. perhaps the PCs get to take him down because Hilo likes them after they save him. 3. Omicron Rising (Granger) Location: Starts on Pale and travles to New Pale. Plots abound. 4. Pestilence- Location Truane's Star- either a "The Thing" like viral plague or the infamous blue plague. not sure what the story should be. October 9, 2011 - 5:01am | What's In a Name Campaign Names: Pale is the Night(Knight), Apocalypse Pale!, Adventure #1: Bounty on Death, Death Rides on a Pale Horse, On a Pale Horse, Death in the Snow (I guess A Bounty on Death is still my favorite) Adventure #2: (famine/ Food Riots theme- this horseman carries scales and he's ordered to affect wheat and corn but not to touch the oil and wine which has been interpreted as the famine strikes the lower and working class but for the rich its business as usual since the luxury items are not affected. This certainly brings to mind corporate elitism and class warfare between rich and poor). But what to name the adventure? Weighed in the Balance? Adventure #3: Omicron Rising- (grass roots resistence movement against the take over by Pale. New Pale's sons of Cygnus Omircon are planning something, Pale is planning to land Peace Keeper battalions and conquer New Pale outright, Streel wants a New Pale politician, who could win the election out of the way lest he carry through on his threat that STreel's properties should be nationalized for the citizens of New Pale.) Theme is War and violence brewing. May have to use the greek and roman names for war somewhere in the module to carry the horseman theme. Adventure #4: (theme is pestilence- which suggests blue plague but does not have to be). Name or working title: ? Pestilence Pale? A Plague on Pale? or simply Pestilence?
