Project Leads

A Project Lead needs to stay on top of his project and usher it along to completion.

The trick is to encourage collaboration by asking questions and imput and draw out responses from the community. At times there will be 2 or more ideas on deck and it will appear the community is not sollidly behind one or the other, thats when a project lead needs to step up and make the decision and push things along.

Absolutely key though that you elicit collaboration or the project will stagnate and you'll do all the work.

Now the next issue is project leads and support staff

w00t suggested these peeps for support:

Cartography (Bill or Nicolas)
Cover art (GJD, Shell, CJ, Wayne, Ryan, Scott)
Interior art (see above)
Module layout (Larry)
Adventure design (Community, project lead TBD)
Editing (SFman staff)

Shadow Shack offered free hand art for interiors
Ascent has some obstacles to producing art on short notice and we're not moving forward so fast so I think he might be out as an artist.

So Project Leads:

I can do one, probably do it well but dont think I'll be any good at managing 2 along with everything else I'm doing: SFman, and other RGP projects that I'm keeping secret for now

Personally I think Terl Obar has done a fabulous job working on the Virtual Convention with both a logo and a version that is ready for becoming a patch that he might be a good person to take that one over.

Anyone else want to step up? Anyone want to nominate someone?

I'd be willing to do the Con if people wanted me to.  I can work out a schedule for us to discuss and finalize, get a registration website up and handle the patches.  Plus I guess I'd have to organize the referees and coordinate everything including the registrations and mailing lists.  I'd need help from everyone to get the word out but I'll take on the lead of this if you guys want me to.

I think that you've done a great job with the patch; I think if we had a flyer- a recycling of the patch/logo with dates and registration site on it we can work on getting it posted in various places- Dyson Logos' gaming blog comes to mind as well as places like photobucket with tag words like star frontiers attached. Upload a copy of it to SF-UN yahoo group as well. I'm sure some other gaming forums will turn up like leadadventureforum as well.

I agree.  I thought I'd try to put together a rough agenda for discussion and start working on a flyer.

If were voting Terl gets mine. I'll be in the background if anyone needs anything. I really hope this site can produce something publishable, I'm excited.

I think there has to be an element of self nomination that a person wants to do it. But I agree that Terl will make a good lead. When it comes to the module though if its Iggy's idea then I think he might make the best choice of lead; I think you have to have a passion for the subject that will carry it. I just haven't caught that for his idea yet thought since talking it out I like it more than at the start. So..... how long should we delay to see of any other ideas pop before settling down on a module project? This project area was just organized today so it's early yet though some discussion has gone before on the general forum threads.

Okay.  I'll take on organizing and running the Con.  For now, I'll leave the modules to you guys although I'll be involved.

A recent offer of good fortune may change my ability to offer a cover. Interior art is no significant problem one way or another. A Wacom may soon be in my possession for work commissioned. If that's so, I believe a cover for the module may be possible without the stress a mouse embues and do it within a reasonable period of time.

Ok, I have a proposal-

We have about 3 or so people, with ideas and/or material ready to go forward so lets make it a competition to kick out a 30th anniversary module. Competition is good for getting things down and I dont really see a ground swell behind any one project. In reality, we could turn out 3 modules and call all three 30th anniversary modules. Bet we could get Terl Obar to tinker with the Virtual Con logo to read Star Frontiers across the top with Fan Module across the bottum and 1982 down the left and 2012 down the right and keep the 30th Anniversary where it is.

That would mean several modules would need to move forward at the same time- Project lead will have the responsibility to do the writing and organizing of his project. I'll be able to comment and bounce ideas on other peoples projects even while working on mine.

What I'd like to see for each module is a full up module as if we were a for profit company looking to sell it. GM and player backgrounds, boring stuff like details on travel and water requirements in the game environment, etc. pull out sheets (if needed), planetary briefs, etc. even a paragraph or two on continuing the adventure after the module is finished.

RE: Possible projects
1. Formad Cluster- good ideas started, needs an outline, System brief, maps, and body of the module written, art (I'm betting we can press into service some of the cgi sathar ships and assault scout artwork already submitted to the fan zine for this)
2. Bounty on Death- has an outline (though the ending is hazy); needs planetary brief, maps, 1/3 written, Art. Plus I need to make a decision about the larger campaign I envisioned it being apart of- go with it being called Pale is the Night or go with the horseman of the apocalypse motif and call it Apocalypse Pale.
3. Shadow Shack has a wealth of material in many different projects. I believe he could get something together.

I think this community is really good about collaboration and imput. However, I'm wondering, if we're going to turn out a module that will in effect represent this community, I think we're going to need to have a panel of editors for editing and layout. Just to put the final polish on the module.

Finally Only modules finalized within 2012 get the logo.

Yes, I can tweak the logo, not a problem.

And I'd be more than willing to help with editing and such on modules.  I might even be talked into taking responsiblity for organizing them and making sure eveything is included that needed to be.  Others would have to generate most of the content, though.

I am, however, no good at art.  I can do maps and such but images are beyond me. And several of you out there can render the maps much nicer than I can.
