jedion357 August 6, 2011 - 5:45pm | I did some looking into identifying chemicals and I'm just not sure i can recommend due to safety concerns. unless its abstracted a little with a chemical composition spit out of a hand held scanner and the kids have to compare it to another list to make an identification. A good option might be a microscope and slides. the kids can compare samples under a microscope. a chart with cat hair, dog hair, horse hair etc and a sample that will let kids compare and identify the sample against the chart would work. Tire tread samples on transparencies and then control samples on whit paper as well as shoe print samples. Anyone else have Ideas? naturally were talking about ideas for a CSI port Loren kind of game here. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 August 6, 2011 - 6:28pm | I just thought of this while writing something the fingerprinting thread: get a collection of 3 old shoes- all the same side foot. use one to make an impression in a pan of loosely packed dirt. foot print is found at the scene and the kids can make plaster cast of the print. My kids love mixing stuff with a spoon when I'm cooking so they'll love mixing plaster, and since I use to collect plaster cast of animal prints I can tell you that the plaster will set fast, in about 15 min or less. They can then use a roller and an ink pad to ink the bottum of the cast and make a print on paper then as the check the shoes of suspects in the game a transparency can be provided of the suspects shoe (assume a lab tech did the work of producing the transparency) the kids can compare the transparencies against the print they made from the cast to identify the suspect. to take a cast of an animal print you need a 1.5 to 2 inch wide strip of card stock that is long enough to encirle the print. at the two ends you make slits that allow the two ends to interlock. this ring of paper is pushed into the dirt and creates a form for you to pour plaster into. for a foot print that is long and narrow I might make the form out of 4 pieces of paper with slits that let me interlock the 4 pieces so that I could frame the foot print. I'm contimplating using my router to route a couple pieces of wood for the prints idea. possible to make a wood stamp for a vursk but I wont need life size just 3 so that I can have a few for them to be compared. I'm betting I can free route the outline of a vrusk or dralasite foot then use a drummel to make the lines in the print. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 March 1, 2012 - 2:03pm | Invisible Ink- clue is written in invisible ink, criminal in custody taunts the investigators with, "You'll never see it." Bake in a toaster oven or use a hair dryer to reveal. Probably not for teens but I'm certain mine would want to endlessly make secret messages afterward. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 March 1, 2012 - 2:07pm | Magic tricks, criminal is using classic slight of hand tricks and or prop magic to dupe people. Of course this will require researching and practicing tricks on the internet or buying a book. Beware of delay of game as the kids will want to try the trick themselves.
