jedion357 July 20, 2011 - 9:56pm | Imagine the SF setting re-imagined to include Sol system in the Milkyway. Alpha Centari would likely be a human colony. Sol system can be extrapolated to have lunar, Mars, belt, Jovian moon. Colonies & etc. Drals, vrusk, & yazirian home worlds and colonies need to be established then possibly include some general vectors for sarhar space. Some thought should be given to projecting current political entities into that future. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 July 20, 2011 - 10:07pm | Perhaps pick a system within 30-50 light years from earth and designate it the home system of the eorna (while that system currently has a real world name the translation into Eorna is Zebulon/Volturnus) though I'd rewrite the history of Volturnus a little while keeping the broad themes. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 July 20, 2011 - 10:13pm | Debating what the big political entities of earth should be but probably best to write in some sort of federation or a some divided entities with one centered on Earth and the other centered on Mars with Luna being under Earth's thumb but a hot bed of potential rebellion. I mention all of that to say that the classic Disney story The Black Hole should be in. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 July 20, 2011 - 10:17pm | Could put Rim Space along the rim of the Milky Way arm that Sol system is in though if we're limiting the setting to 50-100 light year radius then that might not be practical. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Deryn_Rys July 21, 2011 - 8:36am | The Star Frontiers (URS) Project deals with such a setting though most of the star system names are not as we know them today due to the loss of most ancient knowledge after the great war and the dark years that occured after, which tied my Gamma World campaign to that of my Star Frontier's game. Of course one of my side projects (just some vague ideas at the moment) deals with an Alternate Frontier detailing humankinds first steps into interstellar space. I recomend anyone looking into this kind of campaign to get a hold of GDW 2300AD (formerlly Traveller 2300) books if you can find them, the timeline in those books is worth it alone for the detailed account of the changing of the guard as the nations of Earth (Sol) changed between now and that of the game setting. Oh and the Kafer (the alien bad guys) are really well thought out. "Hey guys I wonder what this does"-Famous last words "Hey guys, I think it's friendly." -Famous last words "You go on ahead, I'll catch up." -Famous last words "Did you here that?" -Famous last words |

Did a google search on the Kafer; found only 1 sketch of them with the rest being all VW beetles (vroom). The Kafer look pretty kool as far as an alien race, and even better to me as an EVIL alien race. My SF website izz: http://ragnarr.webs.com |
jedion357 July 21, 2011 - 7:31pm | I'll look up the kafer, however, captrags, have you considered the skiff of "Pride of Chanur" as an alien race? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Putraack July 22, 2011 - 5:34am | Huh, my post from yesterday seems to have gone astray. I was going to endorse the use of 2300AD background. The Kafer remain spookier to me than the Sathar. 2300AD's got some fans out there, mostly churning out military-related stuff. Mongoose is supposed to be re-releasing 2300AD this year or next, actually using the Traveller rules this time. The 2300 space combat system seemed to me to have a lot of promise, but IIRC it was clunkier than it should have been. |
