spyder April 10, 2011 - 11:13am | Ok keep in mind this does not have to be used for the function of mine layer, but I based this on the silhouette of the one in the expansion rules. In the photos I have a size comparison to other ships. Feed back welcome as I do not want to wast time and materials on producing something no one likes. Again it doesn't have to be an area denial ship. Also keep in mind that this is a prototype so its a little rough. |
TerlObar April 10, 2011 - 3:41pm | Is the one on the left the destoryer? If so, the concept one is about the right size as it should be just bigger than the destroyer. I actually like the little one on the right as the look of the minelayer although I'm pretty sure that one is supposed to be a freighter. I imagine that the minelayer actually looks much like a freighter. It has the Ion engines up front, a small crew area and then large cargo areas to hold all the mines that it just ejects out the back end as is passes through a hex. Ad Astra Per Ardua! spyder April 10, 2011 - 4:05pm | Left to right: Original destroyer, frigate, minelayer(maybe),cargo ship. I just finished a sculpt for a different bridge section and I am currently sculpting different main body. I dig the engines so I kinda want to integrate that into the sculpt im working on. will post photos when done. Bellow are photos of new bridge shown next to a frigate for scale. |
jedion357 April 10, 2011 - 6:33pm | there is a mine layer silloette in KHs- I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
spyder April 10, 2011 - 11:21pm | Ok here is prototype II. ejection port visible in the rear and I kept the engine idea. top view looks fat because of clay i used as a temp stand. |
TerlObar April 11, 2011 - 7:49am | I like the new design. The only thing I'd recommend from a physics standpoint is to move the engines down so that they are inline with the main body of the ship. If they are up above the ship as you have them now, the ship in real life would have a torque on it that would cause it to be in a perpetual dive as the thrust from the engines would be offset from the center of gravity. Otherwise, very nice. Ad Astra Per Ardua! spyder April 11, 2011 - 10:32am | Thank you. I was just loosely going off the original silhouette in my knight hawks book ( did a mock up of exact and it looked like crap), for some reason they put the engines on top like the cargo ship, I mixed that with the original miniatures design in the Fed fleet and added a some of my own work. Also everyone needs to consider the new one took about ten hours of work and I have not put all the detail in yet. For the science fact, how about if I put another set of "engine wings" exactly opposite on the bottom giving it four engines. Or I could make the engines separate allowing people to glue them on where they like them. |
TerlObar April 11, 2011 - 10:59am | That would work perfectly from a physics standpoint.. spyder April 11, 2011 - 12:31pm | This does give it a cool biplane look, Need to make some mods and finish detail. All in all I'm digging it, thank you for the Idea. If I make a mold for this one I will have to cast it so that the engines will be seperate and have to be glued on. |
spyder April 13, 2011 - 11:06pm | OK. I have just started on the mold for the mine layer sculpt with four engines. I will inform everyone when they are ready for production. |
