I just uploaded "The Rise of the Sathar" introductory module for the Star Frontiers (URS) rules. This is an updated version of the 4.0 adventure. The two adventures in this module should allow players and Administrators to get a feel for the game. They are very loosely based on Adventures in the original Star Frontiers box set. If anyone decides to give these adventures a go, I'd love to hear what they thought of them. Anyway I hope you guys enjoy them.

A little update, and a question. When I chose to post the Rise of the Sathar module I had originally intended to include two additional scenarios which would lead the characters eventually to the Volturnus adventure but I chose not to do that since I was not currently planning to tackle converting the Volturnus modules until I had finished the other projects I intended. Anyway I was looking through my projects and came across the Pre-generated characters I intended to include for the module, so I uploaded them.

I know that someone has downloaded the module and I'm wondering if whomever did so has run it, or just read through it? I'd be curious to know if it was run how was the experience. I have a mini adventure I intended to include in a scenario pack that I might upload if there's any interest or I could wait until I get around to finishing that scenario pack but it depends on you guys.

I read through the module.
Lot's of space is taken up by stat blocks and I was wondering if you could convert it to Alpha Dawn?

I like the background of the story and adventure areas, great job.

Because it's an intro module, I didn't want the Administrator having to keep flipping around to find Stats, so I tried to put them all right where he'd need them to help speed up play. I might be able to convert it to Alpha Dawn, just give me a bit of time to work it into my crazy schedule.

Thought I was a member of this project? Didn't realize there had been activity here. I'll comment on the module when I have membership and can download it. You should consider making it so non members can down load from the project.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

OK so far read part one of the module with the catapult. You open the module with a briefing on the major NPCs but then completely restate the same NPC information in the encounters. Its redundant, open with a brief paragraph or two describing the NPCs and their role then include their stat sheet in the encounter. Secondly, I like the exploding nanites for the sathar. And the fact that anyone within ten feet when a worm dies gets splattered. More when I read part two. Oh yeah, excellent use of an "en media res" opening, the fact that the PC's are already tracking a criminal and have a loose connection to Star Law, I think it works well and is believable.

Alright here comes the big little criticism: Truth in Advertising. With a title like Rise of the Sathar it leads one to expect one thing and delivers another. I think the adventures are good. Create an appendix section for NPC stats (man those are long) and keep things flowing in the encounter descriptions. Rise of the Sathar is a great title but one would expect that an adventure with that title will deliver secrets about the sathar, whether their origin, rise to power or something. You could pick up on the fact that this is set on the planet Minotaur and say something like In the Maze of the Sathar since this is about sathar intrigue on Minotaur. Setting brief- you should have a half page to one page on Undertow? Was that the name? It should go in the appendix as well and would be of aid for an GM in case the PC's went off script or to run a quick side plot because two out of three players didn't show for a session. Maps. Could use some maps. A low res map of undertown showing principle locations. Plus some tactical maps of encounter locations. This will round out the module.

The Rise of the Sathar title refers to the fact that in the URS Frontier the Sathar have never been encountered (There is a timeline in the Expanded Universe guidebook) so there has never been a Sathar War I or II though there was a UPF/Aldorian war, and UPF Ordanian Conflict. in this universe this module represents the first time the Sathar have ever been seen in the Frontier.

As for the system brief for Minotour, again because this is not the Frontier we know and love Thesius is the renamed Earth (as in Sol 3) several years after Gamma World wiped away the old history records and most of pre-Thesius' population. I was supposed to have already put out the Zeb's guide to the Core worlds which would have given a system brief of the Thesius of the URS, but that project stalled do to many factors.

As for maps...I was doing so much stuff at the time that I never thought about doing maps, and out of habit (when I ran games) I hardly ever depended on maps except when I was designing Dungeons and played very loose with the scenarios, winging it when my group invariably turned left when they should have gone right so when I wrote the module I guess my gaming style sort of came through in the writing.

Oh and Undertown is actually built in what was once the Grand Canyon and most of the main city on Thesius covers the entire North American Continent or what's left of it, but that's just some useless trivia that I think might have gone into the description of Thesius in the Zebs planet guide.

I do agree that there could have been a better way to layout the module, but I was working alone, and doing so much that I put it together how I would use it if I was running it, and had noone to bounce it off of specially since w00t is always knee deep in more important matters (and I am ever greatful for the time he does alot to helping me out) so I try not to bother him with nursemaiding me through the creation process overmuch.

But now having Jedion here who is a titan when it comes to ideas and producing really well thought out material, maybe this project will start flourishing again.

Check, check and check. Now I C. Still not a fan of anything d20 and found it amazing how much space it took for you to layout three NPCs for the first adventure. For this reason I think that you should steal a page from the AD modules and move NPC briefs to an appendix. I'm going to make some comments on an AD conversion in the general forums thread.
