AZ_GAMER February 19, 2011 - 4:16pm | In conjunction with my classically inspired SFKH starship design project I have been working on some ship designs from around the SW1 ERA. I certainly would like the community's input on what characteristics these ships would have. The final designs may or may not look exactly as whats in the discussion as I do have remain within the parameters of my construction primitive models and texture library. Currently I am not building any models from mesh up as I don't have the time but I do have a lot of flexibility with the construction programs I have. First I would believe that there would be a lot more diversity in the ship designs but fewer actual starship classes available as compared to SW2 era ships. Most likely the advanced ships such as Battleships, Light Cruisers, and Assault Carriers would be unavailable. Most Common would be Frigates, Destroyers, and Cruisers (or Heavy Cruisers). |
AZ_GAMER February 19, 2011 - 4:25pm | Yes there are no external engine nacelles on the Sathar warship. Other models may feature them however this design is much simpler construction design that does not feature that much design sophistication. Possibly a throw back to earlier technology or designs stolen from other space faring races. |
Shadow Shack February 24, 2011 - 4:44pm | (Lead) Shielding would probably be a big factor in early atomic powered vessels, much like what the (modern) star fighters would incorporate. That, and the crew wearing insuits anytime they're around the vicinity of the drive(s), not to mention a decon chamber between that and the rest of the ship. Accessing the drives incorporates a space walk, hence the inception of the workpod. As the warships (and civilian ships alike) evolve, the drives end up on struts or more appropriately, super-structures --- that keep them away from the main hull. While the individual drives can be accessed via the jerry-tubes, the workpod is still the mainstay here. |
