SATHAR V-TYPE FRIGATE
|
Originally detected on a UPF Long range sensor sweep this unknown Sathar frigate class has been designated as the V-Type because of its unusual engine configuration. UPF scientists have not been able to determine what, if any, advantage this engine nacelle configuration provides. It is also unclear if this is a variant of the earlier designated Raider Class frigate or a unique class of its own.
jedion357 December 27, 2010 - 12:21pm | The aft underside view is reminiscent of the original enterprise - I like it a lot if fact I'd love to see that view of the ship with an assualt scout coming up from behind and salvoing rockets into it and a planet or somthing in the background I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
AZ_GAMER December 27, 2010 - 8:53pm | I think I could probably do something like that in the not to distant future. |
TerlObar December 29, 2010 - 2:44pm | The only problem with this design is that since the engines are all off to one side of the fuselage, there would be a serious torque on the ship anytime the engines were engaged causing it to be constantly "diving". The Enterprise may or may not have had that problem since it had a lot of mass in the big disk that was up in the plane with the engines. Otherwise, it is a cool looking design. Ad Astra Per Ardua! jedion357 December 29, 2010 - 3:16pm | even if this design had 3-4 equally spaced engines I'd like seeing it from the view that I specified with UPF scout ship coming up behind it. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
AZ_GAMER December 29, 2010 - 4:08pm | i understand about the design flaw but I just made the model based on the artwork scene on the inside cover of the book. It probably wouldnt fly but that is the design in the book. |
AZ_GAMER January 2, 2011 - 10:10pm | I could add a primary drive engine on the aft of the fuselage if that would balance the design and make it space worthy. |
jedion357 January 3, 2011 - 9:25am | I'd say leave it be- It wont fly straight but it looks cool. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
iggy January 3, 2011 - 12:40pm | Crazy idea to explain the V configuration. What if the nacelles can be rotated like on Star Trek's Voyager. The Sathar could be doing this to allow the craft to quickly flip around. Rotate the nacelles to V to start the torque, the invert the V to cancel the torque and regain control before a spin starts. Maybe what is depicted in the KH picture is Sathar starting this maneuver to flip around and attack. Or even better they just dropped from the void and are doing an emergency flip to engage the UPF ship(s). -iggy |

This would mean that we'd have to give them a 180 flip turn or more MR, one or the other but one MR hit on the advanced damage table and the system is out (till the MR is repaired I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
