jedion357 December 16, 2010 - 1:35pm | One project that I thought would be nice to do is compile every cult and cadre anywhere in the Frontier whether AD, KHs, ZEBs, DRagon magazine, Polygon magazine, SFman or even in a document on this site; into one document/ article/ PDF called Zebulon's Guide to Cadres and Cults That said I need your help to make sure I dont miss anything. please post a note about the location of a cult or cadre that you are aware of from anywhere in Frontier literature available and that does not appear in KHs, ZEbs or Dark side of the Moon module. (I'm quite aware of those). I'll pull it altogether in a while and upload a PDF to this project as well as submitting it to the zine as well. Thanks for the help. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 December 16, 2010 - 1:41pm | i suppose specific pirate bands like the Red Devil pirates should be included as a cadre for this project That will mean that Hatzk Nar's pirate band, Red Devil Pirates will both get listings. (may have to check Dramune Run to see if any other pirate organization is mentioned). Should we also do signifiacant political organizations too? they could fall under the classification of cadre. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 December 16, 2010 - 3:06pm | Is there even a write up of the Brother hood of spacers in the remastered KHs? I've spent 25 minutes scanning the book and couldn't find it. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Will the Stampede December 16, 2010 - 6:30pm | IDK if there was even one in ZEB's, aside from the mention in the timeline. " 'Beware the Beast, Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, for lust, for greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death." |
jedion357 December 16, 2010 - 8:29pm | Warriors of White Light module- Liberation Party Dramune Run- "the Malthar"- certainly qualifies as a criminal org. and deserves a write up Dragon #98 Volturnus Connection - MINER (as a front for the Red Devil) and HUSP Dragon #109 "Patriots Terrorist and Spies my inability to find a listing on the Brotherhood of Spacers is bugging me I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
w00t (not verified) December 16, 2010 - 9:00pm | my inability to find a listing on the Brotherhood of Spacers is bugging me Zeb's Guide to Frontier Space, pg 113 Cadres are planetary organizations of people whoare all members of the same profession (except theSpacers who can be found throughout the Frontier). There are cadres of teachers, miners, publictransportation operators, and so forth. These cadresare constantly battling the mega-corps for morecredits, more benefits, and more control over theiroccupations. Sometimes a cadre is honest, sometimes not, but lately many of them have beenstudying the renewed militancy with which themega-corps pursue their goals. Some of the morepowerful cadres, such as the Synthfood Workers orthe Brotherhood of Spacers, may resort to their ownbrand of militancy to resolve differences in thefuture. Star Law is monitoring cadres carefully at thepresent time. |
jedion357 December 16, 2010 - 9:17pm | Thanks w00t, I saw that and its not much of a write up, looks like I'll be making something up I could have swore there was more on them somewhere. so far I have a list of 25 from Zebs, the modules, 2 dragon issues and stuff I submitted to the zine. format for each listing in this guide will include classifying each group as cult, cadre, or criminal stating its source. and its description I believe I'll just arrange them alphabetically and list 5 per page in documents which will allow for insertion of more as they pop up - I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
w00t (not verified) December 16, 2010 - 9:32pm | I searched the entire Internet and couldn't find anything more than a mention in the time line and what I posted. Maybe it was on a third party site... |
Deryn_Rys December 17, 2010 - 10:22am | As w00t already knows I've got some ideas rolling for government agencies in the Frontier and have some other ideas for new cadres and cults that might end up in a future SFman article. D20 future has a write up for some organizations that are adversaries of Star Law in the frontier, including the malthar. I'll dig it up for you guys and post it here before the day is out. "Hey guys I wonder what this does"-Famous last words "Hey guys, I think it's friendly." -Famous last words "You go on ahead, I'll catch up." -Famous last words "Did you here that?" -Famous last words |
jedion357 December 17, 2010 - 2:35pm | I've mapped out the full Zebulon Guide to Cadres, Cults and Criminal Organizations in the documents section, it has a cover page that is basically the blurb on cadres and cults from zebs its followed by 5 pages with 5 groups per page (hopefully in alphebetical order) I'll get all of the groups typed in over the next few days. if you spot one that I missed please spout off in this thread with the location of the source. @Deryn; if there is a lot of info you might want to email it to me (PM me and I'll get my email to you) I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Deryn_Rys December 17, 2010 - 4:33pm | Here's the blurb from the d20 Future book. I don't remember if i made any changes to it when I transfered it to my guide to the Frontier, but here it is.... United Frontier Intelligence Agency (UFIA) Star Law enjoys tremendous autonomy, but the agency is funded by the UPF. Consequently, the United Frontier Intelligence Agency (UFIA) has agents, called Watchers, who monitor Star Law activities. If a Star Law officer violates local laws or endangers innocent civilians during a mission, a Watcher may be sent to evaluate the officer and file a report with her superiors. The Syndicate The Syndicate is a large criminal organization that is run by a being known as “The Malthar”. The Malthar is an impossibly obese Dralasite who lives aboard a privately owned space station in a remote star system. Over the years, the Dralasite crime lord has amassed a sizable fleet of pirate ships comprised mainly of well-armed freighters and escorts. The Malthar has also dipped his fat pseudopods into the smuggling business, and many fear that he has corrupted or blackmailed more than a handful of Frontier officials. Star Law officers sent to track down ruthless smugglers and vicious pirates might find themselves at odds with the Malthar and other high-ranking members of his syndicate, which is believed to have tendrils stretching throughout the known galaxy. Of course, bringing the Malthar himself to justice could be the highlight of the character’s career although many others have already tried and failed. jedion357 December 28, 2010 - 3:44pm | Ok the state of the Cadre and cult initiative: need to do the write ups of Red Devil & Hatzk Nar pirates plus on the malthar (thanks Deryn for the data on the malthar) and the HUSP from the Dragon mag article so its getting there Question: do we need some cadre/cult themed encounters to go along with this? I went through the list and came up with some possibilities 1. Defenders of the Divine Will- attacks on mining and terraforming operations 2. Clear Thinkers- kidnap a telepath who contacts the PCs mentally for help 3. Alliance for the Rights of the People working with the CFM initiate a plan to set up the Madderlian Church of Humanity for the killing of an osakar CFM captain (this idea was discussed in SFMan 15 New Cults and Cadres) 4. Liberators- hate mega corps so they'll attack, you guessed it a mega corp, PCs are mega corp security or they're dupes sucked into the plot. 5. Silver Death Cult- hate robots so they go after a robotic brain running critical services of a city or colony 6. Zenk (vrusk mafia)- looking to steal a high credit item that the PCs are guarding/ transporting. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 January 21, 2011 - 1:40pm | NOTE: just did a major edit and clean up of the cults and cadres catalog in the documents section- it should be readable now! More or less finished up the Cults and cadres- but trying to bang out the Founder's Day adventure to accompany the catalog of cults and cadres. its predicated on the classic Top Secret spy network or Web. With the mastermind being from the investors and FFF, SDC, the Zenk all being manipulated in a plot to assassinate a politician so that a politician elect will be seated and get the right commitee position to influence a key vote on financial reform legislation. At this point I'm just trying to get the adventure on paper and will do a major editing latter. I'm trying to set up the individual encounters to play different from each other which means the web is too big- otherwise the encounters could get repetative. in their feel. I still have to produce the maps for the encounters though the Port Loren map is slated to be used as well. EDIT: I'm also kicking around an article on the various human hate mongering groups- FFF, HUSP, the Free World Rebellion, and Jack Legrange to sort of tie these all in together or explain the connections between them though this idea is sort of stalled right now but if it gets un-stalled then it might just go into the larger document as well. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
