Shadow Shack December 8, 2010 - 7:41pm | So there's a decent article in the SF-Man dealing with an Ifshnit revamp and Jedion is working on the Humma revamp...that only leaves the E.T.-ish Osakar left to deal with. I also entertained the idea of ambidexterity...but considering the additional attacks I figured it would get too imbalanced. |
jedion357 October 28, 2012 - 4:37am | Environmental implications: The Fungal tundra would be the likely location for any planet based enclave of non osakar ie the government of the Rim Coalition has a capitol in this envrionment though it is domed and climate controlled. Hover vehciles are popular as well as air vehicles. how much classic infrastructure do the osakar have in the form of roads and etc? we have to assume some mining and industrial kinds of activity for the osakar to rise to the point of an interstellar player. EDIT: everyone using lungs to breathe except the osakar and the dralasite will be using a filter mask available in the Osak system 30 Cr and n/a for wt. endurance 100 hours refurbished for 10 Cr. Vrusk version is 45 Cr 1kg and same price for refurbishment. what is the impact of the Osak environment on a toxy-rad gauge? Mostly useless as the gauge automatically alerts for toxicity? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

how much classic infrastructure do the osakar have in the form of roads and etc? we have to assume some mining and industrial kinds of activity for the osakar to rise to the point of an interstellar player. I have some good thoughts here. Tunneled road ways, later replaced by tubes like in Logan's Run. An open road will get over grown and blocked by the fungal/plant life. They early learned to put walls and a roof on any roads to better control the environment of the road. Notice I say "better control". They will not gain total control until the introduction of the tubes. They have to constantly clean the road ways. Buildings were initially hollow fungal/plant growths. Later these are replaced with concrete and steel in modern times. The structures are tall cylinders because the fungal/plant growths they initially used are tall and cylindrical. They have many joining enclosed bridges between the buildings. Think of the Petronas Towers on steroids, towers of all sizes with bridges to as many other towers as they can reach. Add to all this the fungal/plant growths that cling and climb and cover every available surface that the osakar don't vigilantly clean. what is the impact of the Osak environment on a toxy-rad gauge? Mostly useless as the gauge automatically alerts for toxicity? The key is "mostly useless", the rad gauge will be fine. There is likely location specific programming needed for the toxy part. This begs to question, shouldn't the Toxy-rad gauge be programmable so that doesn't go red all the time on a world like Osaka? It would be programmed to stay caution yellow for the constant toxins and go red if any went up beyond normal levels. That's likely the key word, normal levels. You program the toxy-rad gauge for each world's normal levels and it displays caution until beyond normal levels. I could design this further but it needs another thread for that. We could hijack this thread big time on the toxy-rad gauge. Plus I recall there was another thread on the Toxy-rad gauge. But before I go, this would be tied to the filter mask so that the gauge goes red when the filter is not working. -iggy |
jedion357 October 28, 2012 - 1:31pm | Or the filter mask has a warning light. I think we can specify that for 3-5 credits you can get your toxyrad gauge reprogramed on a station in orbit or at the local star port. There is a default reset that lets you reset it on your own when you leave. IIRC this gauge, according to AD, is strictly idiot lights. It just gave me an idea though for an item of osakar clothing: wired clothing covered in lights that has sensors similar to that of the toxy part of the gauge and as an osakar moves about in this environment and the sensors detect varying levels of different spores and toxins and gases in the air the clothing lights up in all sorts of different patterns according to the alogrythms programed into its tiny cpu. jedion357 June 22, 2013 - 3:07am | found this here: http://androidarts.com/RPG/Star%20Frontiers.jpg What are are your impressions of his treatment of th osakar? To me they seem a little more alien and I like them better. I kind of like his treatment of the vrusk and th osakar.
