Shadow Shack November 30, 2010 - 5:16pm | I drummed this up from another forum while discussing, well...stuff that shouldn't really be discussed. You might say it was a disgusting discussion. But it got me thinking, and that can be dangerous considering the topic that got me thinking on this route...but what if I could apply this disgusting discussion content toward something that everyone is disgusted about? Step 1> Before going to the airport - wear a kilt (or ladies, just wear a skirt), sans undies (stow those in your carry-on for later). Step 2> Again, before going to the airport - consume an intestine-influencing meal. Hot dogs. Warm beer. A greasy pork sandwich served in an ashtray. Anything gauranteed to get the guts grumbling. Step 3> Chase said meal down with some Milk of Magnesia. Step 4> Upon arrival at the airport, refuse the scan and insist on the opt-out. Step 5> When you get groped down there, let go with the knee-jerk reaction and push. Hard. Let it rip, you've been saving it up for this exact moment. I say if they insist on groping us, then by all means leave them a generous tip! |
Will the Stampede November 30, 2010 - 5:55pm | To repeat: Ewwwww.... But, on the other hand..... " 'Beware the Beast, Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, for lust, for greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death." |

adamm December 1, 2010 - 6:23am | Or just go through the machine since it won't actually hurt you at all. |
Shadow Shack December 1, 2010 - 4:14pm | Problem with the machine: only 65 airports have one. The rest don't give you a choice --- you're gettin' groped. By someone with plumbing similar to your own. Yep, no opposite sex gropers, that's how they're rolling with this. |

the strong. * Attributed to Mahatma Gandhi |
Will the Stampede December 2, 2010 - 11:29pm | Oh, no flying, and no Greyhound either. They don't bother with security checks on Greyhound cos by the time a potential terrorist gets to where he's going via Greyhound, he'll be too old and grey to do anything.... Shadow Shack December 4, 2010 - 4:18am | AmTrak is even worse than Greyhound. Don't forget, the government has their hands in that pie... |
Will the Stampede December 4, 2010 - 11:37am | AmTrak is even worse than Greyhound. Don't forget, the government has their hands in that pie... But, not by much....suffice it to say I'd have saved more money and made better time if I'd simply driven to Georgia(and back) instead of going Greyhound(or even Amtrack) " 'Beware the Beast, Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Shadow Shack December 4, 2010 - 3:06pm | Actually, by quite a lot. For starters, Greyhound has a terminal in every town. AmTrak does not. I had considered AmTrak once for a Vegas to Florida excursion. Turns out I would have had to drive (or take a Greyhound) from Vegas to the nearest terminal (Phoenix, AZ), take one train north to Chicago, another east to somewhere in New England, and then a third south to Florida. And that would have cost more than airfare. Seriously, WTF?! Only a government could conceive such a manner of travel. |

You would've been better off boxcar hopping on the Union Pacific. At least it would've been a straighter shot. " 'Beware the Beast, Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Shadow Shack December 6, 2010 - 3:09am | Not to mention UP has a line going right through the middle of town. It's quite mind boggling. The Greyhound terminal is right in the heart of downtown (Fremont Street, near the Union Plaza hotel...same place that was digitally revamped as "Biff's Pleasure Palace" for Back to the Future). It's quite busy, always has been. Lots of people come here, even during the economic downfall (I guess they don't realize that with the national leading unemployment rate that there isn't any work to be found here). Back in the 90s when we had an AMTrak terminal, it used to be equally busy. Why not, it's a popular destination. And when it was here it was located...wait for it: Right next door to the Greyhound terminal. |
iggy December 6, 2010 - 12:32pm | Are there still rail lines behind the Union Plaza? I remember them pulling the yard out years ago. I didn't think they left anything. I don't see anything from I-15 anymore. -iggy |
Shadow Shack December 6, 2010 - 2:43pm | IIRC it was the same line that UP used/uses, they still run freight trains along Industrial Road/MLK Blvd. that eventually leads into Henderson. We had a "runaway" chemical car filled with chlorine or some other toxic stuff that wouldn't have been very pleasant to deal with in that Industrial/MLK and downtown area not too long ago. That one raised a slew of Homeland Security issues. I'm not sure if they still run directly behind the Plaza though, it may have been rerouted since then. It's been forever since I've ventured that way. Now I'm curious, I might leave early for work and take a putt out that way... |
drow December 7, 2010 - 10:07am | the current US rail system isn't something which was INTENDED, it's what's LEFT. it used to be a lot better, but air travel ate their lunch, so now there's a few dependable big-city routes and not much else. compared to rail travel in europe or japan, its pathetic. |
Will the Stampede December 7, 2010 - 4:44pm | I agree wholeheartedly. You can go almost anywhere in Europe(even from England to the Continent)by rail. You can only go anywhere in the US via rail if you ride in the boxcars of freight trains. Air travel isn't the only culprit, though. The way the American infrastructure is set up, it's always been car-friendly from the turn of the last century, and that, unfortunately, is not going to change.
