Putraack October 17, 2010 - 3:14pm | I missed w00t at Con on the Cob this weekend, but I did catch one of the fellers from Dead Games Society. (www.dgsociety.com) They are a bunch of gamers dedicated to playing/running old, no-longer-supported games at conventions. I played Top Secret with the guy, but he also ran Gangbusters and IIRC Gamma World and Boot Hill at the same convention. I brought up this site, as I think there is room for connections between the two, no? |
w00t (not verified) October 17, 2010 - 3:42pm | Did you get a button? :-) Most of us play all games of all generations, let the connection click! Are you able to represent us at DGS? |
Putraack October 19, 2010 - 12:03pm | I can but try. Yes, I got a Top Secret button, and a Power Ring of Gaming! |
Red December 18, 2010 - 2:06pm | Hi all, I just happened on your site, and I am liking it! That said, I also happened on this thread and as one of the co-founders of the DGS, let me extend the warm (somewhat mushy) Dralasite appendage of friendship from the DGS to the Star Frontiers Community! I'm looking forward to contributing to this site and hope you all will drop by our own humble (in comparison to here) forums and share your own ideas on the topics of gaming. Incidentally, anyone going to GaryconIII or Gencon2011? If so, I hope we can meet up. http://www.dgsociety.com/ Bring out yer dead games! http://www.20thcenturygeek.com Gaming and geekdom of the last millennium! |
w00t (not verified) December 18, 2010 - 9:50pm | Hey Red! Welcome to the site, I have not had the time to visit DGS but would like a presence there. Most of us play several old-school games and their retro-clones. :-) Is someone working on a DGS webzine? |
jedion357 December 18, 2010 - 10:11pm | Welcome Red and BTW they're not all dead yet I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
w00t (not verified) December 18, 2010 - 10:19pm | Bring out your Red! err... Bring our your Dead! err Let's have a PARTY! Bring out your w00t! |
SFAndroid December 19, 2010 - 6:23am | Welcome! er, um, Power Ring of Gaming?? Pic possibly? TY! You can't argue with the invincibly ignorant. - William F. Buckley |
Red December 19, 2010 - 4:12pm | Hey all, glad to be here and I have already suggested on our forums that our folks pay this site a visit. Also, just so all know, we use the term "dead" with great affection. It's our way of saying a game is either out-of-print or an edition no longer supported (i.e. 1st edition AD&D or 5th edition Call of Cthulhu) which we still think needs lov'n So to answer other questions posed, yes we do have a webzine, 20th Century Geek is our nominal webzine. There we discuss all things gaming and geekdom from the last millenium. And we are always looking for people who want to submit articles, so if you have an itch to write on a topic or do a review on something that centers on gaming or geek culture that centers around that golden age of gaming and comicdom let me know, I'd love to print it! Incidentally, I just submitted a Star Frontiers event for GaryconIII and I would love your first thoughts, just based off the event listing synopse. Event Title: Prometheus Calling DM Name: Chad Parish DM Email Address: chad@dgsociety.com Game Type: Role-Playing Game Game System: Star Frontiers If Other, System Name: Date: Saturday Time: 10:00pm Duration: 6 hours (5.5 hours) Required Skill Level: Beginner Number of Players: 6 Event Descripton: Deep in the unexplored heart of the Chimera system, reigns a monster that devours anything falling within it's reach. A black hole. Trapped two years in orbit around this cosmic terror, the crew of Prometheus 1 detects an approaching ship. An answer to their distress call? A Dead Games Society event! Special Requests / Comments: The plot is this, the party plays the crew of the Prometheus 1, a mining station that orbits a black hole in an uncharted system called the Chimera system. They are mining what is in essence Hawking radiation from the black hole's event horizon. They went out before the first Sathar War, and as such have no idea about the Sathar. As black holes warp time, their two years has in actuality been over a decade and the ship answering their distress call (their shift change has not occurred after all) is answered by a Sathar scout ship that will end up damaging their station. Now the party must fend off an alien foe they know nothing about and escape their doomed station before it loses all power and gets sucked into the event horizon! P.S. SFAndroid since you asked... http://www.dgsociety.com/ Bring out yer dead games! http://www.20thcenturygeek.com Gaming and geekdom of the last millennium! |
Will the Stampede December 19, 2010 - 4:18pm | I registered. It was easy and painless. " 'Beware the Beast, Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, for lust, for greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death." |
jedion357 December 19, 2010 - 4:24pm | Looks like a "Wonder Twins Ring of Geekdom," States Jedion wondering where he gets one and wondering what will happen when he and w00t punch their's together in the obvious activation sequence...... I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

Will the Stampede December 21, 2010 - 3:04am | DM Ring of Meanieness? " 'Beware the Beast, Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, for lust, for greed. SFAndroid December 22, 2010 - 5:46am | TY for the pics! I'm a ring nerd and have the whole collection (with some doubles) of the whole Lantern spectrum from DC's Blackest Night. You can't argue with the invincibly ignorant. - William F. Buckley |
Red December 26, 2010 - 8:37pm | Well the red one is specifically for GMs who run games at conventions. The black ones are for those who play in those games (girls get the option of a pink one, cuz for the most part, we like girls) and the other colors are more for handing out to people we meet at the conventions. For instance, I went to Con on the Cob and met one of the good folk helping to run that convention (he goes by the tag Bearded Goose), and when he mentioned he liked our rings, I gave him one I'd take credit for them, but really, they are the brainchild of Michael, that homeless looking fellow modeling them in the pic. We call him Makerofthings, because, well, he makes things... http://www.dgsociety.com/ Bring out yer dead games! http://www.20thcenturygeek.com Gaming and geekdom of the last millennium! |
w00t (not verified) December 26, 2010 - 1:37pm | The Bearded Goose is an awesome fella! |
Will the Stampede December 26, 2010 - 2:06pm | Micheal doesn't look homeless, actually. He does look a hell of a lot like Doctor Strange, especially with those rings. " 'Beware the Beast, Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, for lust, for greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land.
