Captain Rags September 5, 2010 - 6:21pm | Was poking around Google searching for stuff on Humma and stumbled on an old SF fan website. http://thehound.tripod.com/index2.html A lot of the site's links are defunct; some are not. Nice overall look to the site I must say. He has two player character races listed I never heard of before (the names escape me at the moment). One's a tall bovine type creature sort of like a Minotaur, the other was some kind of humanoid cyborg. Wonder if they were from Dragon Mag or from one of YOU talented folks. Sargonarhes September 6, 2010 - 7:31am | I remember that website. Some good stuff but I find their rules for plasma weapons a little flawed. Sure they'd be short ranged and a power hog, but the slow rate of fire. It's not going to take that long for a laser to heat the hydrogen, and the shot will still be fired at near light speeds or at the very least as fast as any rifle bullet fired from a gun. I'd drop the 15% penalty for them as their short range and power consumption and need for a hydrogen tank (already an extremely dangerous gas to carry around) are already enough of it's problems. In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same. |
Captain Rags September 6, 2010 - 4:22pm | Although I only breezed over the weapons links, I agree with you about the plasma weapons. But like, where did the dude find the Jakar and Demu races? Were they something the website's author created or did he borrow those races from one of the creative minds that dwell here? My SF website izz: http://ragnarr.webs.com |
Gargoyle2k7 September 9, 2010 - 1:35pm | The demu are from Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials, originally from F. M. Busby's Cage a Man. Long live the Frontier! |
Captain Rags September 9, 2010 - 9:15pm | Thank you Gargoyle2k7! I'll add that credit for the pic on the 'new alien races' section of my SF site. Knew the dude got it from somewhere but I couldn't find it. My SF website izz: http://ragnarr.webs.com |
Gargoyle2k7 September 10, 2010 - 8:26pm | BTW, Wayne Barlow is the main artist for all the Avatar creatures... Long live the Frontier! |
Captain Rags September 10, 2010 - 9:19pm | Dang! That Brit's a genius. Now if I can just locate the source of that pic for the Jakar race on the website. Tried googling Cowman, Bullman, and Minotaur. Nope, negative, and naaa. Damn good artwork too. It's a plain sketch, so I wouldn't think it's from Barlowes alien book. Maybe I should just put 'artwork: unknown' under the pic and move on to other projects. My SF website izz: http://ragnarr.webs.com |
Captain Rags September 10, 2010 - 9:56pm | "Well quit yer grinnin' and drop yer linen! FOUND IT!" (thank you Pvt. Hudson) Apparently the guy who put the Jakar on his website got the concept and I'm guessing the artwork too from 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles RPG: Down Under series'. It (the Jakar) was originally a 'Mutant Water Buffalo' from a nearby city/province called 'Jakara'. Oh, and if any of you get the chance, let me know what you think of the Za'tet race on the 'New Alien Races' link off my website's main page. Just finished the write-up, and I think it's pretty much there (at least I "think" so). My SF website izz: http://ragnarr.webs.com |
Sargonarhes September 12, 2010 - 6:39pm | Barlow's guide, I remember that book. Had a more likely picture of what a Velantian might look like than the anime Lensman made Worsel out to look. Hmmm... Velantians in SF has a nice sound to it. Who wouldn't want a galactic dragon at their helm? Even better beside them in a fight. In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same. |
Captain Rags September 13, 2010 - 12:10am | A Velantian sidekick would be a hoot certainly. I spent this weekend conjurung up the Za'tet (humanoid rattlesnakes), the Drowlasites (anti-Dralasites), and the Mirelurks (crabmen from a video game). Think they came out pretty kewl. Find them at my website on the 'new alien races' link. My SF website izz: http://ragnarr.webs.com |

Captain Rags September 13, 2010 - 9:21pm | @drow: I'm sorry drow, but thou art officially immortalized. @Rum Rogue: hmm, crab cake. Think I'll take the gf to Red Dumpster this weekend. My SF website izz: http://ragnarr.webs.com |
