Simple question here. How Big is the Galaxy? In real life our own Milky Way is about 100,000 light years across
and 1000 light years deep on the galactic plane. It is a barred spiral. The milky way galaxy is not very big as galaxies go. But it is still huge. What type of Galaxy are we playing in? is it unbarred spiral, barred spiral, ring galaxy, starburst galaxy, a dwarf galaxy etc. And how big is it. Some Dwarf Galaxies have been observed that are only 100 light years accross  but most galaxies are far larger than our own. I dont even want to think about Clusters, groups or superclusters. It could boggle the mind. But, what size galaxy are you playing in?

Since the opening line of the game is "Near the center of a great spiral galaxy...", I've always taken it to be a spiral galaxy much like the milkyway or the Andromeda galaxy.  Basically an SB galaxy (moderate bulge with moderately wound arms).  I've never given much thought to whether it is barred or not as it has no real impact on the game.

I've always ran SF as being in an far-flung region of the Milky Way.  Recently, I've been adapting the Frontier to a region some 400-500 ly towards the outer rim of the MW from Sol, but that's just my take.
Long live the Frontier!
