adamm June 11, 2010 - 2:15pm | The various web pages leave me wondering about the status of the game Frontierspace by DwD. They talk about it like it's a current and real thing, but I can't find any reference to where you can get it. Is there a completed product that can be bought? |
AZ_GAMER June 11, 2010 - 4:10pm | adamm, the project is still in development and play testing. Some rules are available for download to work with. I am developing the alternate game setting for Frontierspace, called Dark Tempest, and am waiting for the official rules release. Contact CleanCutRogue Or Woot for more information on testing materials and release information. |
Ascent June 12, 2010 - 12:44pm | I'm working on a couple of settings and a couple of basic game modules (with basic game rules included, aimed at women, kids, and teens), as well as assisting in the development of some aspects of the game itself. I'm also doing about a quarter of the art (around 45 pieces of around 180), which is currently my focus so that we can get the FS PHB out as quickly as possible. I'll be done with the first chapter heading image (which Bill seems very pleased with) in a few days. I'm almost done with another piece as well, and have many other images started. Bill and Larry, and I think others, are currently working hard on playtesting. Bill's rules are quite smooth and enjoyable and the Referee's book will be sure to be very informative. In other words, the game is coming along fine. We're all quite busy on it. But I would imagine it would probably be a Christmas release if we can get it out this year. Art will be the big holdup if we don't get it done by the end of the year. Bill wants a lot of art and we only have a few pro-level artists available, one of which I hear is MIA. AZ_GAMER June 12, 2010 - 4:10pm | Thats funny, I havent been asked to work on a signle project for the art in the core setting. So I guess if they have an art shortage they can only have themselves to blame. I have posted on both sites threads asking for specific detailed requests on art. True I am very busy with my second job right through the rest of the summer but for months I have asked for projects and have heard nothing. |
w00t (not verified) June 14, 2010 - 2:36pm | Bill and I have been playtesting internally and are very near a public test release. If you would like to be considered for the public test, a signed non-disclosure agreement is required. The agreement covers all our products (not just FS) so you don't need an NDA for each project. Aren't lawyers grand? :-) @AZ, At this time we do not want computer generated art in the main books (which your good at). Hand drawn inked line art and gray-scale artwork is acceptable. If we do a starship supplement your artwork would be great! @All, The best place for updates is the DwD Studios site or Twitter. (I'm still working on a facebook page) ----- Good to hear the word is getting around. |
AZ_GAMER June 15, 2010 - 3:37am | ehhhh hem, I have mentioned upon several occasions that I can do line or grayscale art as well, I just need the time to do it. |
w00t (not verified) June 15, 2010 - 9:40am | ehhhh hem, I have mentioned upon several occasions that I can do line or grayscale art as well, I just need the time to do it. Oh! I totally missed that. :-( I'll send you email. Thanks AZ Anyone else have professional level artsy fartsy skills? Don't make me get out my HB! |
w00t (not verified) June 23, 2010 - 11:40pm | (cross post from here, not much to show but the 2 hour session was very important to completing the Core rulebook) FrontierSpace Design Notes: Session 1 I wanted to share some pictures I took of our notes from tonight's design session. Bill and I meet once per week (schedule permitting) to discuss the next steps for the FrontierSpace game. We then assign tasks and have until the next meeting to complete.

Rick June 24, 2010 - 6:14am | Was very interested in the character gen ideas - I do know from experience that coming up with a 'character concept' can be the hardest part of the process - most players will look a bit blank for the first game or two until they can visualise their character. Why don't you have an optional "Character Concept Table" with, say two lists of descriptives that could help to give a 'bare bones' concept - 1 list of physical descriptives, 1 of psychological. It'd be tricky getting them general enough so that they could apply to other races and sexes, but it might work. You could get to roll say 1d3 times on each table and they might have things like; tall, short, attractive, big build, slender build, etc for physical; aggressive, passive, hard-working, easy-going, humourless, funny, dedicated (to a person or cause), open, closed off, etc for psychological. The idea would be that they wouldn't affect the characters stats, but they'd give a 'handle' on the character for the player to have an initial concept. What d'ya think? |
w00t (not verified) June 24, 2010 - 9:50pm | Great ideas Rick! The core book has the following random tables to assist in fleshing out your character.
I'm working on some ideas for the Referee section of the core handbook. Here are my notes so far;

Ascent June 28, 2010 - 6:21pm | I thought you didn't want to discuss design over here. I thought it was all going to be on the DWD website.
