Cosmic_Emu April 22, 2010 - 11:42pm | A nice departure from the typical Sathar ship depictions. Looks less flimsy than the normal configurations I have seen. We need to find a few 3D modellers to get a bunch of designs to throw up on Shapeways. -Eli |

iggy April 27, 2010 - 11:07am | That's a pretty tight formation for starships. Hope the worms don't bump into each other on the way to the dance. Great job! -iggy |
AZ_GAMER September 3, 2012 - 5:49pm | SAV Plague Wind Class Frigate. One of several previously unknown starship designs now being fielded by Sathar forces on the edge of the Frontier. Fast, reliable, and deadly these ships boast many technological advances comparable to the UPF spacefleet and interestingly identical technology that appears to have been stolen by the worms. A recent skirmish between two Banshee Class Corsair patrol ships and a single plague wind resulted the loss of one of the UPF Ships and critical damage of the other. Some valuable intell was recovered from the encounter and it is apparent that these ships, which have been designated as the "plague wind class" by the UPF spacefleet command, are formidable. The ships appears to carry one heavy laser cannon, four coaxial laser batteries, and two bow mounted weapons which appear to be some kind of kinetic projectile weapon or missle tube. No visible rocket batteries were detected but four reinforced areas maybe exterior mounting hardpoints for missle/torpedo weapons or ECM pods. Long range sensor scans detetected approximately 45 individual bio-signs that were most likely comprised the ships crew. The propulsion system bares a strikingly similiar design, (One analyst called it a bolt for bolt copy), of the new Arcodyne Industries Binary Stage Atomic Fusion Drive System. If this is true, the Plague Wind will be capable of much longer ranges and need fewer overhauls after jumps then previous SAV models. Another advantage to this new drive system is it no longer requires the transport or storage of fuel pellets. One Catalyst pellet is used to initiate the drive systems reactor core and then only a source of hydrogen is needed to continue perpetuate the reaction. Arcodyne Scientists explain that so long as the engine is not shutdown additional catalyst pellets are not required. The fundamental statistical data for the class appears to be the same as older SAV frigate designs. |

AZ_GAMER September 3, 2012 - 5:48pm | The Admrials of the UPF stared at the vid screen in horror. "It's not possible, how could the bloody worms have one..." whispered Admiral Blackwater through snarled lips. "It's true, distiguished Officers of the Space Fleet you have been assembled here for this briefing today to bear witness to one of our greatest fears." The neatly dressed Vrusk intelligence anayst stated as he gestured to the waiting seats in the briefing room. After a momentary pause, he continued, "The reason we have been seeing our aerospace technology appearnig on Sathar spacecraft is not the result of a massive deep espionage operation as originally thought. It's much worse. The Sathar have managed to seize one of our deepspace automated repair stations. They are using this mobile robotic drydock to assemble ships using their materials and our technology. We believed that this particular unit had been destroyed while supporting an expeditionary force near the Muld Nebula. All starships and support craft were believed to have been lost during a Sathar ambush. Evidently this was not the case." |

Arclight May 7, 2010 - 4:34pm | Nice pics - what modeling engine did you use? "If we knew what we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?" -A Einstein |
AZ_GAMER May 7, 2010 - 7:37pm | @ Sargon.. Yes the long boom Sathar models are coming. These ships are hybrids, using a seized automated dry dock Sathar agents are producing vessels with UPF technology using Sathar materials. (Kind of like how the russians always were one step behing us in aircraft designs that were based amazingly on American aerospace. i.e. the mig 25 and the F-15, the mig 21 and the F86, the mig 23 and the F111, the backfire bomber and the b1 lancer). I wanted to work on some stuff using some of my already existing model components to get a feel for some new designs. When I start work on a Sathar cruiser it will look a lot more like the traditional stuff. However, there will be some changes to the general engine appearance, after all it has been about thirty years since the original SFKH Sathar ships were imagined. |
AZ_GAMER May 7, 2010 - 7:42pm | @ arclight I work almost exclusively in DAZ studio / Poser. The starships are original works i created and the dry dock models were created by another artist in either cinema 4d or carrara as i recall (but I could be remembering that wrong) |
jedion357 May 9, 2010 - 4:46pm | Am I the only one that still envisions Sathar ships with Klingon like neck booms and engines on the end of long struts? Now I know why I really love my sathar fleet- its the subtle resemblence to klingon ships! I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
AZ_GAMER May 9, 2010 - 6:15pm | In comparison terms, consider the Plague Wind to be similiar in nature to the Klingon Bird of Prey, its a deisgn departure from traditional configurations but maintains the same general Sathar "Feel" |
jedion357 May 9, 2010 - 7:13pm | By the way I envision that interior corridors and passageways inside the ship would be clyinder shaped and that there would be some small passages that were round tubes that sathar could slither through like a worm and others that were larger that Sathar agents and large enough for bipedal style ambulation. Sathar sleeping chambers would also be cylindrical tubes that the worms could sleep / rest in. great idea, I had been thinking to have rounded edges and even an organic feel. possibly like the interior of World works shadowcore product: http://www.worldworksgames.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=140 I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
iggy May 12, 2010 - 9:13am | I've always imagined that the sathar would have one room with something to wallow in. In Earth terms it would be soil, but then who is to say sathar biology is anything similar to a worm. But I do like the idea of them wallowing together in something, possibly gross to us PCs, where they socialize?, eat?, mate?, sleep?, etc. I do envision everything with smooth and rounded edges and I love your tube passages idea. That would make boarding a sathar ship a real problem. A seasoned boarding team would have a tunnel rat to squeeze these tubes and clear the rooms of survivors. Dralasites might fit this bill well. But then robots would be expendable. -iggy |
AZ_GAMER May 22, 2010 - 8:35pm | A communal wallowing (or several) chamber would be an interesting addition to the social system in the sathar starship. |
AZ_GAMER May 22, 2010 - 2:03pm | I would propose a consideration of the bio-mechanical machinery displayed in the ID-4 movie. However, this would be a serious departure from that suggested in the SF game materials |
