AZ_GAMER March 27, 2010 - 1:21pm | The Metakons are a re-boot of the original "Necrosian" concept race proposed by Will and myself for the Frontierspace Game. Since Will's departure from the community I am not comfortable continuing the original concept as-is and have decided to go back to the drawing board and re-start the project from the ground up. Essentially the concept art will remain the same as this was created by me and the Dark Tempest time line will also remain the same. The name, culture, technology, relation with other races, and goals have all been changed with the creation of this new race. |
AZ_GAMER July 10, 2012 - 10:31pm | Well here is an update to replace the art that use to be here. I have reconciled my conflicted feeling about using the Necrosian name. Will after all did send me an email giving me permission to continue to project without him. However, I have put a lot of development work into this and have decided to also keep the names Metakons and Corpses as these may be local names they are called from region to region. One major change is that I am rolling the whole thing back into the Titan Rising Universe and setting. I really tried to wrap my head around the whole human culture without Earth and I end up running-a-ground with paradoxes that just don't work. It works fine for alpha dawn, for the most part - there are some interesting earth centric art faux-paus throughtout AD. But truthfully humans without earth for me is like baseball without bats, its just not the same game. Not to re-hash the whole alpha dawn debate on the Eathless setting here. In alpha dawn it can be made to work or cleverly brushed under the game mat with good story telling. Just my feeling on the matter. |
jedion357 March 28, 2010 - 4:39pm | Why not go back to the first race name? Necrosian? Or call them ROM for Reign of Masocism or ROS from Reign of Sadism I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Bilygote March 28, 2010 - 5:10pm | Have you anything written down so I can get a better feel for what you're going for? |
AZ_GAMER March 28, 2010 - 7:25pm | Thank you for the suggestions Jedion and I have some answers for you. 1. Necrosians was a name concept created by Will, since his hasty and heated departure from the community I am not comfortable using his work. He had offered to "possibly" send some correspondence releasing legal and IP for his part of the collaboration. However, I'm not one to beat around the bush and play games with IP so I'm taking whats mine and rebooting it so its no longer connected to the original concept. The only thing remaining is that they are a conquest oriented and zealous cybernetic race. since the art was mine from the start the basic appearance will remain unchanged. 2. I never cared for the "sadist" concept for the race. I think it should be an adversary and possibly an "evil" one. However I would think that a cybernetic race would consider sadistic behavior to inferior races a waste of time much like how we view insects as pests. The whole Necrosian issue of torture and mutalation of breeder races seems, well, stupid. Maybe individuals or groups within the race doing this makes sense but as a whole it seems just plain stupid. So the whole thing is going back to the drawing board with a fresh look and a rewrite. |
AZ_GAMER March 28, 2010 - 7:19pm | Yes Billygote there is a entire time line written and it will be posted here. |
AZ_GAMER March 28, 2010 - 7:29pm | I think as a race the Metakons will be a little more well rounded then the Necrosians were |
jedion357 March 29, 2010 - 6:25pm | Cool- so you were not looking for a new name? I read some of the original materials on FS and thought you guys had good creation though for me the sadistic portion of the racial description turned me off and left me not very likely to use the race. But I felt that you were trying to distinguish your creation from the Borg of Trek which then made the sadistic elements make sense as it would deffinetly be different from the borg with only the cybernetic elements being a mild similarity. That said dont make them like the borg at all but individuals who are arrogant knowing that they are the height of all life in the universe and everything else is just their for their use. Hence the conquest. jetison the sadism of the original and you peak my interest. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
AZ_GAMER March 29, 2010 - 9:21pm | Well like any race, some will be worse then others, allowing for really evil sadists and arrogant conquerors, and detatched superiority complexes, conquerors, emotional (unlike the borg), and individuals (unlike the borg), addidicted and dependent upon their technology. |
jedion357 March 30, 2010 - 8:24am | How so are they addicted and dependent on their tech? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
AZ_GAMER March 30, 2010 - 3:59pm | Originally known as the Rofara. They are addicted to the technology, mainly because their bio-tech was borrowed from the Solaquin (Tech they didnt completely understand in the first place) which was intended to save their race from fatal plaque on their homeworld. The Bio-tech worked, it extended their lives and reversed the cellular damage caused by the plague but it also consumed them as they became more and more dependant on the technology to replace their biological components which would age and die faster then their cybernetic components. Eventually as the original Rofaran DNA and biological materials became corrupted and un-sustainable for cloning they slowly began to covert to entirely cybernetic life forms. I have the story written out in the time line but I dont have the time to write it all here right now. I have started a second job and work a 72 hour work week so I have to budget my time even more now. |
jedion357 March 30, 2010 - 5:25pm | What you describe is kind of tragic and even opens the race to have individuals who seek redemption. Also sets up a possible adventure where they're offering a cure to a similar plague and not telling the downside- PC's have to discover the truth and prevent the use of this tech. Of course that leaves the plague issue un-resolved and probably calls for a sequel adventure. Adventure 1: "Gift of the Metakons" Adventure 2: "Plague of the Metakons" Adventure 3: "Metakon _____________" just my idle thoughts..... I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
