jedion357 March 22, 2010 - 8:38pm | Probably not- isn't there a system brief for it in the module? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Gullwind March 22, 2010 - 9:32pm | There is, but barely. Star color and a few details about Starmist and that's about it. "Rome didn't build an empire by having meetings. They did it by killing those who stood in their way." |
Bilygote March 23, 2010 - 9:07am | Gullwind has it right. I just didn't want to do it if somebody else had developed it further than what was already published. |
w00t (not verified) March 23, 2010 - 11:01am | Billygote - I have you marked down for Issue 15 "Sundown system brief". I can draw the system if you want (see Issue 13; Ora). Also see Issue 3 and 6 system briefs by "Danger" - He did a good job of including some personas and locations. (Although there isn't much on this planet and I remember besides the heliope's). Finally you could include all the data from the module - heliope drop off and such. We'll beat the community to help with submitting a few Creatures of Sundown. Good stuff. Smile, w00t loves you. |
iggy March 23, 2010 - 12:03pm | I could do a batch of StarGen runs to see if I could generate a system with a world that matches Starmist and Sundown. Here is an example of a match I found for the Gruna Garu system: http://www.winsor.us/~eric/rpg/GrunaGaru.htm I want to get Hargut (the terrestrial planet) vetted by someone who can speak to the habitability of the atmospheric conditions. I've been running StarGen and writing STC and SSC files for Celestia to build a 3D frontier map as mentioned in the 3D starmap thread I started. Refer to: 3D starmap software When I have something ready I'll post to the 3D starmap thread about it. This is what has had me distracted from the Core Four stuff lately.-iggy |
Ascent March 23, 2010 - 3:04pm | I tried drawing heliopes according to the actual description, and not the one Caldwell did...Heliopes suck! They look like they were thought up by a 3 year old. Bilygote March 23, 2010 - 7:19pm | Woot I'm guessing you're in management Alright pencil me in |
Bilygote March 23, 2010 - 7:22pm | I guess this'll give me a chance to use that system generator Woot made. |
w00t (not verified) March 24, 2010 - 6:03am | Not in mgt - I just beg ppl. ;-) I'll send you an updated copy. |
iggy March 24, 2010 - 9:39am | I ran a script of 10,000,000 stargen systems last night for a K9 star (stellar mass 0.542) searching for habitable planet systems only. Nothing came up. This is because the habitable zone is so close to the parent star that the scientific model that stargen is based on put the possibilities of a habitable planet for a K9 star near zero. In a few runs without the habitable limit on the output I found several systems that had planets that would retain the elements necessary for an atmosphere, they were just too cold or too far from the star, etc. Looking at the description of Starmist in the module I should have been looking for an ice or rock world in the habitable zone that retains the elements for a breathable atmosphere. Starmist is a cold frigid world with deep cracks where atmosphere has collected and temperatures are warm enough for life. My guess is that Starmist has a hot core that keeps the rivers in these deep canyons warm enough that the surrounding area supports life. I would add to this that the most suitable life supporting cracks are along the equator because they get sunlight better than the higher and lower latitude cracks. The cracks near the poles are probably barren, lifeless, and frozen. However breathable atmosphere could collect there. This kinda reminds me of Journey to The City of The Dead by Allen Dean Foster. -iggy |
Imperial Lord March 29, 2010 - 10:30pm | Check the Gordon Lightfoot song... By the way, that is a cool Star Frontiers PC name, or maybe a D&D Halfling... |
iggy April 29, 2010 - 12:11pm | OK, here is what has been obsessing my time for the past month or so. I have been generating systems for the frontier and putting them into Celestia. I have a Sundown system generated and entered into it. It uses a map of one of the moons of Jupiter or Saturn for the moment, so we need a proper Starmist texture map. See www.winsor.us/~eric/rpg for the addon for Celestia. -iggy |
