needed a menace for my mining ship serial adventures in one encounter and came up with this
didn't want the xenomorph (aliens) It needed the feel of the combat in Aliens but not that of Alien if that makes sense.

feel free to comment- I haven't play tested these yet.

Do you think they are sufficiently dangerous or not enough?

I intended that they be individually weak and easy to kill but as a horde....

    Quick w00ty comments;

    • Remove 1d2.
      Damage: S2/STA Check
      * Each successful hit deals 2 points of interia damage. The target must make a STA check or be paralyzed for d100 turns.
    • Can pinchers puncture space suits? Other types of clothing, armor, skeinsuits?
    • The live in vacuum.
      What is their food source?
Why the need to eat the characters?
Perhaps atmospheric pressure causes pain, damage or they simply can't tolerte it. Maybe their easy to cruch.

...or have a creature that is attracted to power, screens, certain metals or plastics found in ships, clothes or equipment.

I hadn't really planned to explain everything about them just that a mining crew drilled into an asteroid and found a vault. In the vault were a sort of sarcoffigi/coffin things. The took one and when they opened it on their ship it was a stasis chamber with an alien creature in it. The creature expired and the spiders burst forth.

There was no way into the asteroid before the mining crew drilled into it. Thought it would work best as an unexplained mystery and GMs can do with it what they will: decide its tetrarch related or other.

Their food source is the characters they hatch inside- was thinking to specify that they die like a bee after stinging 5 or so times. maybe the were bio-engineered as a weapon. the whole psychic energy and the suggestion ability had me thinking sathar and the coffin that the PCs openned if they chose to back track the derelict mining ship would have a void spider infested sathar- was also toying with void spiders especially finding sathar tastey in the Psychic sense. need to be able to survive in vacuum so that there escaping their vault is a grave threat as they'll begind to infest the asteroid belt by jumping and coasting to other rocks then ships, which they would ride back to population centers. full polyplate and space suit armor should be impervious to their bite.

they dont really eat the characters but lay eggs that suck the host dry before hatching.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Ahh, in that case I like them more and more.
They mystery of how they survied along with where they came from sounds fun.
