Great article Terl.

The description reminded me of one of the 2300AD fighters.

I saw the History channel's show the Universe talk about this very thing. But I seem to remember an old comic series where the ships were very basic looking but had some hard sci-fi look to them and how they fought.

The comic was Albedo, and the ship's deck were arranged very much like the decks in SF. The energy weapons were used primarily when the ships were in relative close proximity to each other or in chasing engagments. The other weapons were (AVC) Autonomous Combat Vehicles, which were smart drones that would accelerate and attack each other or the target vessel. No explosives were needed as the kinetic impact alone was enough to do signifigant damage. So effective were the AVC they could be used for planetary assaults as well.

You mention the comic Albedo today and hardly any one will know what you're talking about.

Yeah, it was. It would be considered a "furry" series now days, but it was so hard sci-fi and politics I just over looked that every character was an anthromorphic animal. I just recently found a blog some guy did back in Sept. talking about some of the details about it and I thought it was a really good sci-fi with some solid idea of what space battles could possibly be like.

Check out the layout of a ship from Albedo.
Plenty of space for fuel and such, looks really well thought out.

Cool I like it. Mkaes more sense than a lot of starship ideas.

I have been wanting to get more starship miniatures. But all the ones I see look like a flying aircraft carrier thay always have horizontal decks, Just doesn't make sense in zerog.
