jedion357 March 14, 2009 - 11:57pm | Once upon a time in Thailand, a young avionics maintenance tech was working in his shop when his Lt. walked in and said, "You just volunteered." "For what he asked?" "We have a downed KC135 and we're going to pull sensitive equipment from it before Charlie can get to it. Grab your tools" The young tech and his Lt. along with a squad of big burly bad arsed looking fellas boarded two helicopters and flew off to a section of jungle somewhere in southeast Asia. There, crashed in the jungle, was an all black plane. [the air force never had black KC135s] One copter touched down while the other circled. The young tech and his Lt cut wires and jerked out certain equipment and lugged it to the copter while 2 of the big burly boys planted C4 everywhere. On the second trip to the black air plane bullets started zinging overhead through the banana leaves as they were carrying their 2nd load to the copter. The demolition expert was the last aboard the helicopter and both circled the crash site with door gunners blazing away as about 50 men emerge from the jungle. Some fired at the helicopters while other attempted to grab and throw away from the plane any piece of the plane that they could. At this point the demo expert said, "Watch this," as he pushed a little button. Next thing the young tech knew there was no more plane and no more 50 guys but a big hole in the ground. A long long time in the future in another part of the galaxy A young tech is told, "You just volunteered." At a classified briefing under surprisingly strict security he learns that a UPF Dark Ghost, an assault scout, has disappeared in the unexplored system Gono K'tt 4210 due to suspected sathar activity. How it is known that it might be sathar activity is classified. The mission of the Dark Ghost: classified. Loaded down with defensive suits and screens as well as weapons and his tech kit the young tech rode in the flat bed hover truck with with a squad of rough looking military types across a darkened landing field in the early fog bound hours of the morning. "What have I gotten into?" he wondered. The UPF Dark Ghost is a stealth covert ops scout not the standard assault scout and it was investigating Gono K'tt 4210 as a suspected sathar outpost. Gono Kitt 4210 was discovered by a dral and vursk tramp traders who duly reported their findings. Unwittingly, something in their scans caught the attention of the UPF. Gono and K'tt were quietly paid off and surprisingly the old computer on their ship suffered a total crash and melt down but they were able to replace it with their reward money from the star route and though they've claimed to have opened a new star route, no one believes them as it still hasn't appeared in the Star catalog and they of course cant produce the charted route since their old computer wiped out their records. Gono K'tt is not just a sathar outpost but more of a colony/base with an estimated 100,000 sathar involved in logistics support for the naval station, resource gathering and genetic research. The UPF Dark Ghost has been the spear head of covert operation in the system. and though its most recent mission has been compromised somehow the UPF is sending a scratch built mission post haste to recover or destroy the Dark Ghost lest the sathar find it and unravel its technical secrets. Last message from the Ghost said, "We're going down." and the UPF seems to think that even if it did crash that the sathar wouldn't have that easy of a time locating it and even if it has been found the UPF has authorized the use of a nuke, if need be, to protect the secrets of the Stealth Scout. Some complications: The sathar have a copy of the most famous of all Frontier cookie cutter cities: Port Loren inhabited by a large number of UPF citizens (presumed to be sathar slaves/agents in training). There is a large research facility as well as a mining and farming operation. A military base and training center and now a light space presence. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Will March 16, 2009 - 2:46pm | Hmm, this got me thinking, would Spacefleet(or Shadow Shack's SFC) have an equvalent of the USAF's Pararescue Service? One of their jobs is to "secure" crash sites, especially those of SpecOps aircraft(SR-71, AC-130(which is what I'm assuming the Thailand story was about),MC-130, and so on). Well the SR-71 is all black but it was not the plane; ask Gary if he has the Power to describe the plane, after all there were very few that were painted all black. None the less you raise a good point about rescue and seeing as how I added a rescue scout based off the Assault Scout to the deck plans just the other day that might be worth exploring.
