What Deck plans are we in need of ?

I'm looking for nominations
What deck plans are we really in need of in full color? what could be of real use? or we have some deck plans for x class but we'd really like to have it in full color.

(I may just find myself bored one night and fire up the old dundjini software.)

Here's my 2 cents on the subject- there are plenty of freighter deck plans already in existence so unless someone can make a really compelling case for a new freighter I'd say no to this though for a number of reasons the Pacific/ Gullwind maybe aught to have nice full color deck plans- if for no other reason than its the subject of a module.

I did a really big star liner and I have someone elses (RJR studios) star liner's deck plan and mine is expandable- just add duplicats of the journey class, 1st class and corporate class decks - oh yeah I'll get the Truane's Express uploaded soon. So probably not a starliner.

fighters do we really need a deck plan for this?

Assualt scouts are well represented so no to this.

I did one privateer (thruster class) but possibly more yatchs and privateers.

RJR studios did an ag ship which I like but a full color deck plan wouldn't hurt but wouldn't have much utility beyond maybe 1-2 adventures set there.

A UPF frigate would be useful for a military and or "big ship" campaign or for that matter a LC or DD class ship or even a carrier

research vessels? there already exist the deck plans for the Eleanor Mores which is a exploration vessel.

A repair ship?

A "Coast Guard" style vessel- auxilary military vessel with a search and rescue emphasis. I think the assualt scout and std. UPF frigate work for this or the militia's simply have this task which means scouts and frigates though I could see privateer vessels being used for this role too- especially a captured pirate vessel

Hospital ships?

Stations- this isn't really popular with me as they can mean a lot of work. and I'm finding really big ships to be a pain to use with miniatures (my prefered method of gaming).

shuttles? I suppose a couple of good designs for this class would help besides the stuff thats already out there. passenger shuttle & freight shuttle

I am intrigued by the idea of a living ship (farscape) so that could work to.  though I suspect there must be an RPG for farscape which would mean a living ship deck plan exist somewhere.

military drop ships?

the space casino? ship or station or moon base

So what do you think we need more of or we just dont even have at all and could use?

Any of the above sounds good to me.  I've done a couple ships so far for my campaign.  You can find them at http://starfrontiers.homelinux.net/ships/Dart and http://starfrontiers.homelinux.net/ships/MorningGlory .  They are a HS2 interstellar shuttle that the PC's have and then a HS20 Super Freighter.  I find the big ships are easier to make although take a lot of time.  Designing the smaller ships is more difficult trying to get everything to fit into the small space required.

It would be nice to see some of the Starfleet vessels (frigates, destroyers, light cruisers) designed.  And if you wanted to have a crack at something different, similar vessels for the Sathar.

After reading the Article on Big Ship Campaigns I've spent quite a bit of time considering the UPF frigate, even doing some prelim work on it. I'd certainly preserve the look of the sample deck plans of a few decks for that ship that were included in the alpha dawn rules.

You also illustrate the point too, Terl, you like many of us have done the work for a freighter and a cargo shuttle so with so many of these out there to be used I wouldn't bother with them for right now. I'd like to see something not done before or something that there would be a high demand for the only exception to this might be the serena dawn 2 as it is essentially an unfinished ship though the intent was to have a playable KW style deckplan for the SF-0 module.

We've all done freighters and scouts probably because that is the type of ships PC's usually first get access to, and they are small from a deck plan point of view.  Most freighters are empty space and don't have much more deck area than a scout class ship so they are easy to do.

You do having me thinking that I will pick up the challenge of a frigate I think the serena dawn 2 can stew for a while.

And I might try a cruiser or maybe some of the sathar vessels.

Where are these "RJR studios" deckplans coming from? I only ask as I label my online pics with that tagline but I never did a liner or ag ship. It got me curious...

I had started a light cruiser a few years ago but never finished. I also started on a battleship about the same time and got just as far LOL.

Stuff I plan to upload includes the following:

> Akyna class light freighter

> Atlantic class freighter (smaller version of the Gullwind made by Streel)

> Courier Scout (loosely based on the Traveller scout/courier. Same concept, all new deck plans)

> Escort Frigate (a militia grade vessel, more of a de-gunned UPF frigate that is cheaper to purchase & operate)

> Pacific class freighter (already uploaded in Documents section)

> Pirate Frigate

> RT-3100 merchant scout (already uploaded in Documents here)

> RT-4940 freighter (my PCs' personal HS:5 paramilitary freighter)

> SNUB scout (streel corporate scout ship)

> Timeon Clipper (HS:7 freighter)

Stuff I'd like to submit as I finish:

> revised UPF destroyer (haven't started yet, have my old scans uploaded on another host site which I will base it on)

> I'd love to do a pirate corvette someday too.

I also have some "decks parallel to main axis" plans (re: Serena Dawn from AD game) I can submit for anyone that enjoys that format (I know Bill likes those too). Even the SF/KH "Beyond the Frontier" modules incorporated this style with the sathar scout ship...

I have been working on an article covering variant decks for the assault scout - my idea being that there would probably be loads of different assault scout designs out there, and they might only have 1 or 2 decks that are different, the rest would probably be about the same, so rather than redesign the whole ship, just design new decks. Should have it finished soon (just got to price up the different designs). I'm also working on a version of the Pirate Corvette, the idea being that it's a civilian light hauler that pirates use frequently because it's got a fairly large cargo area (just started, so it could be a while).

"But, Sir," the bosun said, regretting the words even before they left his mouth, "we don't have any thumbscrews."

"That, Bosun," the XO replied in a low, mad whisper, "is why they give us machine shops!"

I had actually intended my Akyna to be a corvette prototype, however it looks little like the ones represented in published materials...four engines and cargo holds flanking the actual hull. But it was my basis for one, I just never got around to "corvette-ing" it.

The idea I had was taking that basic hull and dedicating perhaps one unit of cargo space towards the aft since the pirate corvette carries 20-25 crew (re: the minimum of a frigate).

I also started another corvette based loosely on the Tantive IV from Star Wars, albeit in smaller scale (IIRC the SW game has that ship at 150 meters in length, making it frigate sized for SF). Powered by eight A drives, it's fast but laden down with extra weaponry so like the pirate corvette, it ends up slightly underwhelming.

Hey guys, what program do you use for designing deckplans?  I am really needing to do deckplans for my GaryconIII event coming up March 25th, and for that I need the plans for a freighter used for collecting energy from a black hole (i.e. Hawking radiation) and/or a medium sized space station/space rig-platform where the "drilling"  actually takes place.

I also need deck plans for a Sathar assault scout ship.

check out the download section of the deck plans project I uploaded a bunch using dunjini software to make them
http://www.starfrontiers.us/downloads/3444

I suspect that the Serrena Dawn 2 might be the ticket for what you describe- I designed it as a canon version of the serrena dawn in vertical deck alignment but still trying to honor the original serrena dawn ship
If you take it down to a Staples at this time of year they can print it on the cheap paper the keep for people looking to print specialty wrapping paper for the holidays- its what I did but it took some figuring between me and the girl at the print center to ensure that deck plans were blown up so that 1 square would be 1 inch but the print density of the ink was a little strong in Black and white (skipped on color to save money)

The Castor Class freighter module was done with no texture on the floors to prevent a dark printing like what I got with serrena dawn 2 and there are 2 different versions of decks 4 & 5

good luck

Are you planning on letting the party board one without having it blow up to bits?

I have specs for a Sathar gunned scout at my Dominion game, albeit no deckplans available (they're on my old hard drive that crashed, unless I uploaded them here). It's not quite up to par with a UPF assault scout, but far better than a "heavy fighter" in that regard.

Well, the idea is that the Sathar attempt to board the platform.  If the crew/party can defeat them, they "might" be able to use the Sathar ship to escape, or salvage parts from it to fix their own damaged shuttle, assuming they disarm the boobytraps set to cause the ship to self-destruct from unautherized tampering.

Incidentally, I just purchased both Astrosynthesis version 2.0 (very impressive and daunting) as well as Fractal Mapper 8.0 (which I thought had the ability to map space ship deck plans but I am now suspecting that is a plug-in as all I see are fantasy layout tools.  Anyone else use Fractal Mapper?

I use MapTool, a free and easy to use mapper combined with image files downloaded from Hale Gaming. If you try MapTool, be sure to watch the tutorials. They do a great job of helping a graphics neophyte like me build some pretty deck plans with just a couple days practice.
