AZ_GAMER August 7, 2008 - 8:48am | I made a new set of renderings playing around with the Sathar Light Crusier Model introduced in the Daedalus Project and some organic textures. I am not entirely certain what it is but it certainly looks like trouble. It could be a Sathar genetic experiment with organic space craft technology gone horribly wrong or horribly right. Another interpretation I though of was an alien organism that had enveloped the Sathar vessel and was consuming it from the outside in. Either way its bad news. What are your interpretations of what this is, stats, how to use it in the SF game universe or just your comments in general. |
AZ_GAMER August 7, 2008 - 8:54am | another image with some more mutations |
Sam August 8, 2008 - 6:50am | I wouldn't want to get anywhere near those. My first thought is Sathar crossed wtih Resident Evil. |
w00t (not verified) August 8, 2008 - 7:12am | It's a muscle ship missing the epidermal. Recent events caused the ship to become infected with a virus that replaces metal with living tissue. Metal that could not be replaced was extruded in long tentacles to form a communications array that will contact a species 3.32 times worse than the Sathar. The Sathar have enlisted the assistance of Star Law and the UPF to destroy the ship before it gives away it's position on the border between the Sathar and UPF. Evil scientists like Dr. Horrible want to use the technology to rule the world. UPDATE: Rule the Federation. UPDATE: Rule the Galaxy. UPDATE: You get the idea. http://drhorrible.com/ http://doctorhorrible.net/ |
AZ_GAMER August 8, 2008 - 7:39am | I was a little more inspired by the Babylon 5 earth ships that were grafted with shadow alien technology which was organic in nature. However these ideas are really good ideas too. Hmmmm I wonder what evil race could be only 3.32 times worse then the Sathar. Some ideas I had included: 1. The exterior skin you see is the alien and it envelopes the metal ship and starts to destroy it by slowly encasing it in the spine-y tentacles and fleshy coating that eventally eveloping the whole ship. Inside the ship the tentacles breach the hull and the crew must fight off the tentacle attacks or be consumed or crushed by the tentacles. 2. In an effort to attempt to create a self-repairing hull the Sathar experimented with vaccum mircro-ogranism that is grafted to the hull plating on a molecular level. Something goes wrong (or right depending on your perspective) and the organic hull begins to grow and mutate on its own. Eventually mutating the ship and spreading spores that effect and mutate the crew. I really wasnt going for the resident evil skinless look as much as the organ or membrane look, I can easily change the texture to several different oozy yucky types but this one was the most menacing look. |
Sam August 8, 2008 - 8:17am | Here's a thought ... Sathar engage in battle against a civilization with advanced biotechnology, where much of their technological advances are based on organics/biotech. Three Sathar cruisers were lost in an engagement on the border when they were enveloped by bioweapons (spore pods fired from enemy ships -- several hundred pods fired in a pattern where several dozen cracked against the hull, releasing their engineered weapons which quickly converted the hull into an organic mass and began consuming the ship). Woe to the sathar trapped within unless they can fight their way out of the ship. Growing spikes are communication or sensor arrays of the biotech civilization's design... |
AZ_GAMER August 8, 2008 - 8:33am | Here are some other gooey bio textures that could be used as well |
AZ_GAMER August 8, 2008 - 8:36am | I always liked the idea of Satharian "Boogie Man" an alien race unknown to the other races but one that terrifies even the most stoic Sathar. A race of aliens so malevolent that even the Sathar tries to avoid contact with them |
Sam August 8, 2008 - 8:59am | Such a race would be a key influence and explain why the Sathar are so militarisitic and hostile to all races. Early sathar civilization could have been nearly destroyed by this boogie man race and only through draconian military measures were the fragments of sathar society able to survive. Now military ways, violence, conflict are all the Sathar know. |

"You're everything that's base in humanity," Cochrane continued. "Drawing up strict, senseless rules for the sole reason of putting you at the top and excluding anyone you say doesn't belong or fit in, for no other reason than just because you say so." —Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stephens, Federation |
AZ_GAMER August 9, 2008 - 2:28am | Gene Stealers would make a great advesary for the Sathar but I would like to De-40K the concept to be more friendly to SF world but they do make for a good model to work from. |

AZ_GAMER August 10, 2008 - 1:05pm | Ok a little off the original topic, but related, here are some new fresh off the press Sathar Starships, I created the 3d meshes for them all by myself...whooooohoooo, not an easy thing to do, so they are pretty basic in design. Enjoy |
AZ_GAMER August 10, 2008 - 1:04pm | A second Sathar vessel Derived from the original mesh model I created |
Rum Rogue August 11, 2008 - 8:15am | nicely done. I like the color on the Scourge and Tormentor. I dont know why, but I really like the burnt-red coloration for Sathar ships. Time flies when your having rum. Im a government employee, I dont goof-off. I constructively abuse my time. |
AZ_GAMER August 11, 2008 - 9:27am | The grey areas are reinforced armor hull plating, I was experimenting with and update on a different type of engine nacelle with the Tormentor then what is normally used in the SF Box Chits, I like the old versions just fine, but I'm sure in twenty years since SF came out there would bound to be some upgrades to Sathar Ship design, lol |
Gergmaster August 11, 2008 - 4:35pm | Cool ships. What did you draw them in. Auto CAD, Illustrator,??? Confucious Says: Man with one chopstick go hungry. Man who eat many prunes get good run for money. Man who live in glass house should change clothes in basement. |
AZ_GAMER August 12, 2008 - 1:46am | Both meshes were created in Daz Studio using the Hexagon plugin. (Adobe Illustratot, oh how I wish I could afford Illustrator, Photoshop, and Lightwave, lol) |
Mycanid September 5, 2008 - 11:23am | First thing that popped into my head regarding the early tentacled typw of illustrations (very nicely done btw) was actually something cthulu-ic. I have always liked the idea of "mystery races" and the sort in sci-fi genres, and this looks like an ideal one for a terrifying race that even the sathar fear ... we have been tossing somewhat similar ideas in the sathar forums some weeks back. @}-,-`- "It is a joyful thing indeed to hold intimate converse with a man after one’s own heart, chatting without reserve about things of interest or the fleeting topics of the world; but such, alas, are few and far between." – Yoshida Kenko (1283-1350), [i]Tsurezure-Gusa (1340) |
AZ_GAMER September 6, 2008 - 5:25am | Thank you, though I am not very familiar with the cthulu mythos other than knowing what it is and having seen its references in a lot of other works, it is kind of the idea behind the concept. Those who are interested in the race that created this weapon will learn more about it in my digital comic book. Though I put some concept ideas out here on the forum I have been playing around with this digital model for a while trying to put it to use in one of my projects. The object is a organic/biological weapon called the Ravenger and is an intelligent organism / biomechaniod weapon created by an ancient elder race called the Shi-an (From my fictional comic book universe). The Shi-an are masters of manipulating and altering biological organisms. They have created several bio-mechanical races to use in their wars of interstellar conquest Including a race called the Xin and Tal. The shi-an's entire culture and technology is based on bio-tech. They are not evil per se, but instead are cold, calculating, and conquest oriented. Order is prized above all things, and while the Shi-an are not as bent on destruction as the Sathar, their absolute belief in domion over all life is paled only by their complete lack of emotion and compassion. Younger races are only reguarded with curiosity and viewed much like humans do an ant-farm. THe Shi-an do take interests in the five races biological diversity but only in so much as how it can be used or assimilated into their constructs. In truth the only thing keeping the Shi-an from seeking all out conquest over all the know universe is the fact that they have not yet mastered the ability to independently create life itself and often require organic material from other races for the creation of their technology and constructs. |
Sargonarhes September 11, 2008 - 4:13pm | Aren't Sathar ships rigged to self-destruct in the event of such occurances? In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same. |
AZ_GAMER September 11, 2008 - 11:28pm | Only if they knew they were in danger of being captured. Should a Sathar encounter the ravenger, it would appear as any old run of the mill space debris impact. Once the ravenger attached itself to the hull it would slowly start infiltrating the ships systems and consuming the crew. Of course some Sathar crews would recognize the threat and self-lessly destroy themselves. Some would not be so lucky. If there's no one left to throw the switch its pretty difficult to detonate a self-destruct device. |
Sargonarhes September 13, 2008 - 4:01pm | Hmmm, going to have to study this more. This gives me an idea to find a way to tie the ships self destruct systems to the life signs of the ships command staff, not just the captian. I mean the senior officers aren't going to like the idea if the captain is killed the ship blows up. Of course such a plan wasn't in place for the SF module where PC boarded a Sathar scout carrier, but the more I think about it the Sathar organic ship could have been an attempt to give the ship it's own biological AI to know when to self destruct in an emergency. But the idea of bio-weapon alien enemies of the Sathar sounds more appealing. Justifing the Sathar to want to wire the self destruct to the life signs of the top officers of the ship. But what would be a good precentage breakage to the Sathar? As long as a handful of officers are still alive and functional they'd still have a chance of survival. 80% command staff dead and ship goes boom? In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same. |
