SmootRK March 6, 2008 - 10:04am | I was browsing around and found this little tutorial on how to bind a hardcover book. How to Bind a Book Some time I may have to put together a Hardcover of the Alpha Dawn and Knight Hawks materials. If anyone tries this, please share your results and any comments on how you did it. <insert witty comment here> |

Gilbert March 6, 2008 - 3:24pm | I have apprenticed for a master book binder, and this is a very good way to make hard covers. I have put my fantasy game info in scroll format to make the mood of ancient times. For SF I have been looking into digital hobby electronics. It is still on the expensive side to do it on a whim. |
aramis March 21, 2008 - 4:19pm | There is another stiching method: print on double-sized paper (so, for letter, print on 11x17), in folios of 4-10 sheets (4s=16p, 5s=20p, 6s=24p, 7s=28p, 8p=32p, 9s=36p, 10s=40p), and then stitch those to the cloth strip down the center fold. This is the classic hardcover. Other than stitching to the back of the cloth, rather than the sides, and taking far more time, it tends to lay open a bit better. Once all folios are stitched to the backing, back to the binding as described in the link. Book binding was a project in my 7th grade english class... Excellent tutorial. |
