Lost Worlds, New Frontiers

This is a developing situation in my Lost Worlds, New Frontiers campaign.  A huge passenger liner with 2000+ passengers and crew has misjumped into an unknown star system.  They don't know it yet, but they are stuck here and will eventually use up the life support on their ship if they don't quickly colonize a habitable planet in this system.

Assuming a mixture of races, social classes, professions and backgrounds, how quickly could they decide on some form of emergency goverment and what forms might it take?  The liner is owned and crewed by PGC, but the captain and most of the senior officers are MIA for the moment (they abandoned ship).  The passengers will soon find out what happened and are not likely to continue with PGC management.  Some passengers are VIPs and have high ranking positions (government, corporate, etc) back on their homeworlds or great wealth that they no longer have access to.  What factions or disputes might arise?

I have my own plans for a development in stages, starting with emergency meetings and maybe a little rioting...leading up to improvised government of a colony.

To make the transition feel as authentic as possible, I'd like to hear what other Star Frontiers fans have to say.  Anyone have ideas about how this would develop?

I'm not using Zeb's skills, so everything looks fine except for the skills you picked.  Just go by the old Alpha Dawn system for now.

If you really want a high strength yazirian, I'll let you shift some points from somewhere else.  Maybe raise that 35 STR to a 55 STR and subtract a total of 20 points from another set of attributes.  It's up to you.

The story has had a small update, but any newly introduced characters will be on a separate elevator on their way up to the security deck.

Elpotov could write his own introduction.  Just describe your character stepping out of an elevator onto the security deck to join his fellow PGC guards.

Write your intro under "The Story"
http://www.starfrontiers.org/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=55

I'll get your character transferred over after you've bought your starting equipment.

I put up another post under Lost Worlds on the other forum.  Sorry about the slow pace, but better slow than nothing at all.

I've read through pages 1-6 and page 13 on the game forum- very creepy stuff any room for another player?
I was thinking to try a character archtype from one of the early Star Frontiersman issues.
either the Yazerian Priest or a science type. but barring that a combat medic with PTSD.

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

You can roll up a character if you want.  It will be easy to slip in at this point.

Just look at the other characters for examples of starting xp.

I think I saw 31 xp in the forum thread? and all alpha dawn rules? Rim races possible but core 4 the focus and money for equipment?
I suppose I should request formal membership on that forum?
Oh, I'd like to do something unusual a character archtype or something just different, playing a military PSA is always good as you can specialize in killing things which in a RPG is good as most conflict is solved with a sword or gun; none the less I want to take a challenge.

Yes, 31xp to start.

I also have a special rule that nobody has used yet.  It let's you create your own PSA, but that new PSA can only have three skills in it and none of them can be weapon skills.

some examples:

Computer, Technician, Environmental

Computer, Medical, Psycho-Social

Medical, Robotics, Computer
Technician, Robotics, Environmental
Psycho-Social, Computer, Technician

These new PSAs could still get weapons skills, but at non-PSA costs.

Thats cool and simplifies trying to use the character archtypes form Star Frontiersman!
How's this:

NAME: Ch'k L't
BACKGROUND: It use to annoy him that humans pronuonced his name as Chicklet, but in the pursuit of proffit he never let that stand in the way of making money and eventually he grew found of the nickname when used by friends. People who are to familiar to soon or are not who he considers friends who use Chicklet better be careful because he tends to make them pay for it sooner or latter on a deal.
Until recently Ch'k L't worked in the family business.
When his grandfather was alive, it was his smuggling
business. He helped refugees on Gollywog escape
the Blue Plague when the planet was under
quarantine. His heart was in the right place, but he
may have been partially responsible for that
plague’s widespread effect.
Now the business has passed on to Ch'k L't's father. Ch'k L't was a smuggler who specialized in the smuggling of
people. He helped create false identities for the
people he smuggled, or talked his way through
customs and immigration with a smooth tongue and
a handful of credits.
Recently, he went on a mission from his
father to grab a target and “escort” her to Kraatar.
But when he arrived with his unwilling travel
companion, he found that she was being sold into
slavery. He drew the line there, fled, and now his
father is furious with him for ruining the reputation
of the family business...

Smuggler PSA: Technician, Environmental, Phycho-social. (I'm assuming tech skill purchased ar 4 and enviro and physch at 5 for 1st level?)

RAce: Vursk  Sex:M Eyes: gold; Skin: Green with tan spots, 80kg 1.5m tall 1.4m long
Dodge: 15m   Walk:10m   Run: 30m   Hourly: 4km
Climbing: 2m   Crawling: 2m   Swim: 10m  Hourly Swim: 1km
Running Leap: 5m   Standing leap: 2m   Run Vert. Leap: 4   Stand Vert. Leap: 2m
Comprehension:17%

STR/STA: 50/50
DEX/RS:   40/40
INT/LOG:  45/45
PER/LDR:  65/55
IM: 4
PSA: Vursk Smuggler (Technician, Environmental, & Physcho-social)
Skills: Technician (2), Enviro (1), Physch-soc. (1), Projectile (1)

based off the PGC security equipment I gave him a start equipment of:
1 auto pistol 4 clips
1 sonic knife (replace the defense suit with this item to better fit the character concept)
Chronocom & polyvox
Inertial screen and beltpack
Vursk backpack w/ smuggler's pouches (1 flat pouch straps under the carapace and backpack proper has a false bottom/hidden compartment)
IR goggles
typical pilot's hat w/attached sun goggles to keep wind and dirt out of the eyes when flying open cockpit jetcopters as seen on cover of SF-0 the team is looking for piolets right?
33cr hard cold cash (he doesn't like banks and keeps cash ready to hand)

That pretty much leaves buying a few more items of equipment and writing a background though I'm liking the Kidnapper background from the Star Frontiersman article and that would explain why he was on the starliner to Cassidine. Being an opportunist he'll be taking thought of the future almost immediately after the acting captain's announcement.

Though he's no front line fighter, he's well positioned to get story share in this campaign- jetcopter pilot and environmental skill, and psyche skills. and would most likely make an excellent supply officer should he be recruited.

which brings us to working him into the adventure- if you accept this character concept?

EDIT NOTE:I bought IR goggles and updated the background story.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Ch'k L't looks fine at first glance.  Yes, 4xp+8xp for tech2 and 5xp for enviro1 and psych1 skills.  6xp for the weapon skill and I see you added the remaining 3xp to comprehension.

Now I just need an excuse for you to join up with the security guards.  That should be easy.

Cool, "Chicklet with a checkered past". Always entertaining to have one like that in a group.
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out

Does Chicklet have a candy shell.

Maybe he has to check on some "contraband" he stowed away in the cargo hold, and runs foul of security?

"You're everything that's base in humanity," Cochrane continued. "Drawing up strict, senseless rules for the sole reason of putting you at the top and excluding anyone you say doesn't belong or fit in, for no other reason than just because you say so."

Is w00t/Billow still in the game?  I was just waiting for his post before going on with another update.

I recommend that Billow leave t4 to watch Hilo's room and take an elevator down to help the rest of the group find Chicklet.  The group should be together for this next stage.
