Anonymous October 1, 2007 - 4:32pm | I just wanted to remind everyone that Bill and I initially wanted to work with the people at sf.org and sf.com to start a real community driven site that allowed all SF fans from every background the web space to "share their project". no one is asked to "conform" to this rule set or that, it's an open-community. unfortunatley we were turned down. so we decided to build-our-own. Bill took off on the Drupal platform incredibly quick, almost amazing and has turned into the site we have now. he has coded 100% of it and has stayed away from turning into "his" site. it's not a site for the StarFrontiers Man, or the Digitally Remastered project althought they will prob be the biggest part of drawing the SF community here. it's become a wonderful site for everyone and Bill is working hard to "get the kinks" out and has suffered from "code creep" (Bill, can you add this? add that? jump up and down and turn around?) some have opted to only contribut to SFMAN, some have started their own projects leaving SFMAN for a bit. whatever the reason let's working on shifting our talents to the task at hand which I believe based on Bill's lost harddrive is to re-submit or newly-submit articles to SFMAN and continue to work on any bugs that crop up on this site and try to table new feature requests. dealio? ....oh, if your not parallel to me, GET parallel to Bill |
Corjay (not verified) October 1, 2007 - 5:10pm | I agree on the feature creep, and I'm mostly at fault. Though I have stated repeatedly that Bill could put those ideas off, because they weren't important. A discussion of an idea does not mean it has to be added right away or added at all. I get ideas and then I state the ideas. Sometimes those ideas need to be discussed, and the better I think an idea is, the more I'll discuss it. But so far I haven't campaigned for any idea that I can recall, as a single thread is not a campaign, but is only a discussion. Now, if Bill has a psychological condition that prevents him from exercising restraint, in that case and that case only, will I hold back my ideas. I've been defined on many, many occasions as visionary or having creative genius. It's what I do. It's who I am. I'd imagine it's probably why I was Bill's first choice as tester (though it's possible it could have just been convenience). |
CleanCutRogue October 1, 2007 - 11:18pm | Nope - no psychological constraints other than a healthy addiction to quality and diversity. I just like to write code cuz I'm a big nerdy techy type. I do value your opinion, Jace, as I value the opinions of everyone I asked to help test the site. I have never felt obligated to provide a feature requested by you or anyone else. Rest assured that if I presented a feature recommended by any of the site's Alpha Team then that feature was either 1) easy to provide and didn't bother me or 2) was a great idea that I wanted to implement once it was suggested. Any features I haven't been able to add were because they were either 1) too large in scope for me to provide at this point and would like to add it later, or 2) there are technical reasons why it's complicated to provide and will take a lot more work to consider. I do try to plan my time well, and lately I've been devoting a ton of my time to this site and my family. This has allowed the SFman to become neglected. I wish I were two people because I truly enjoy doing all of these things. I need to hit one out of the park with this next issue of the Star Frontiersman. Because of this, I'm working on a new layout that will be similar but new, familiar but fresh. I very much want to have a thick issue but am more interested with quality (as I always have been). As far as new features go, please continue to recommend, all of you. If I'm not convinced it's a great idea then I open it up to wider discussion through requests for comments. I'm not one to dictate how this site should work, I don't even consider it "My" site really... odd considering all the work and money I've put into it :-) Please don't stop the brainstorming of ideas. We're all very intelligent and quite creative people here. I've never met anyone worth keeping on as a friend or colleague that was short on talent, and talent often comes with sizable egos. This means I fully expect that some people will clash. I think we're all mature enough to allow these clashes to be constructive, and look forward to the diversities of opinions that will collectively make this site great. I value the efforts you've all put into the site, and hope you all value mine. I'm continuing to work on the layout. I hope to have it done & ready soon. Then I need articles... and hope you all will help out :-) 3. We wear sungoggles during the day. Not because the sun affects our

Corjay (not verified) October 2, 2007 - 12:19am | I've been trying to come up with something that might help hit the ball out of the park for you but haven't come up with anything just yet. Though there was something that came to mind just before I fell asleep the other night, but haven't remembered it yet. |
Corjay (not verified) October 2, 2007 - 12:52am | I just remembered what the idea was. I'll get to work on it. |
Shadow Shack October 3, 2007 - 4:17am | I like the new site. When will it go public? Can't wait to tell everyone about it...but I took the oath of silence earlier LOL |
CleanCutRogue October 3, 2007 - 4:36am | I'm taking it public with the release of Issue #7 of the StarFrontiersman, since I'll have an introductory article in it giving an overview of the features. I'll then direct I like the new site. When will it go public? Can't wait to tell everyone about it...but I took the oath of silence earlier LOLwww.starfrontiersman.com to the site to help bring traffic here. I hope to see the number of registrations begin to swell then :-) So anyone who wants to see the site take off - help me get the SFman done!! 3. We wear sungoggles during the day.
