    Revision Notes Like Wikis

    Issue Number:
    98
    Severity:
    Minor
    Description:
I realized that with multiple people able to edit the same document, that they will need to be able to note what revisions they made to the document so that others editing the document at the same time might be able to find where those revisions were made in the document so as not to erase or overwrite what someone else has done. These documents are pretty much wikis with management capabilities.

In the edit form, there should be a place called "Log Message" - where you can place any text you want in order to note the changes you performed.  These log messages show up when viewing the revision history, in order to help you know what changes were made in that revision.

That will go a long way toward clearing up my confusion about the front pages that keep being marked as changed, but aren't changing. Tongue out Wink

That Log Message thingie has been there from the start, but nobody ever uses it.  Also - keep in mind that the front page changes that take place are often something simple - like a configuration change on the project security settings (Selecting "Node Referencing" for instance) and you may not notice the change when you go look at the page.  If someone joins as a member, that changes the page too.  So there are several things which can change a project front page... not all of which are obvious when viewing it.  I even considered eliminating it from the "Whats New" list for that very reason.  Unfortunately, I can't pick & choose what types of changes cause a page to be "updated"

I didn't catch that before. Maybe the log message should go up top with some kind of highlight to make it stand out. I glossed over it until just now. Even still, I wouldn't be encouraged to use it. It's practically invisible and out of the way.

Does anyone besides me think and short 30 seconds video's on this site would help
new users? I'm willing todo them.

I dunno... nobody ever gave me a video to use rpg.net... and there's plenty of meat to that site: wikis, reviews, articles, game database, forums, private messaging...  I just meandered around and figured it all out.  If this site is that complicated to navigate, maybe I need to rethink some things...?

RPG.net is just a forum site. Lot's of meat, yes, but few features. Some features on that site need explaining, but they don't do a good job of making it easy to access or operate those features. I have a visual codebreaker mind. That's the only reason I got to figuring it out, and even then I didn't know the features even existed until months after I started participating. RPG.net NEEDS a video for newbs.
